I'm a 100% war veteran, signed in with the ER, and gave the clerk my veteran billing information. I started to receive my bill via email and text. Which is a violation of my confidential information. I never received a paper bill. I did not give permission to bill me via AI. Second I should not have been billed directly, all bills go to the VA business office. Plus I'm being harassed by the billing department, which sends me statements every week via email, and text. My understanding this is a violation according to Hippa. Plus the time spent contacting the Sierra Vista billing department is insane, and the time wasted waiting on the phone. Trying to understand the person I'm speaking to is very challenging. I was on hold for over 30 minutes waiting for management to no avail. I had to call back again, waiting for a representative to explain, and stop sending me the bills. The VA is responsible, stop emailing and texting my private information. Within hours I received a statement via text. This is harassment. This is not healthcare. Did Sierra Vista commit fraud by billing Medicare and not the VA?
My husband 24 Y.O. male had a pulmonary embolism in February of this year and as we reflect on everything that happened while we were down in San Luis for vacation, one thing I can remember is how terrible the floor was with us and how much discomfort they caused in the most frightening and terrible time of our lives. The ER was amazing. The nurses were attentive, polite, and did an amazing job of comforting my fiancé now husband, and myself at the time. However when he came back in for pain management due to the dead tissue in his lung, the floor nurses and the AC were incredibly rude and unprofessional. One of the worst times of our lives was made worse due to the floor nurses behavior, comments, and brash attitudes. Would never recommend this hospital to anyone in San Luis.
Very bad experience with this hospital. I gave birth to my daughter here almost 2 years ago. The billing experience has been AWFUL & it’s still ongoing. They are very unprofessional, have not worked with us at all. They duplicate billed us on numerous occasions, changed bills that my insurance covered to my daughters name and tried to rebill it under her name, and sent a new bill over 18 months after date of service. It’s been the worst experience. I have since given birth to my son 3 months ago in MT and had the best hospital stay and experience already settled all bills! and it made me realize how awful of a birthing process and experience I had in CA. The on call doctor who delivered my daughter at Sierra Vista was on his phone while delivering my child…a guy walked in to drop off my breakfast tray minutes after I gave birth and was in a vulnerable position getting stitched up and just set it next to me, nurses didn’t really care or help in anyway. WOULD RECOMMEND GOING ANYWHERE BUT HERE!! Very disappointing experience. I’m currently sitting on hold waiting to speak to customer service about a new bill I’ve received it’s been 47 min and almost 2 years later. You’ll waste your life dealing with this joke of a hospital! Would give 0/5 stars if possible
One of the absolute worst experiences I’ve ever had. I went into the ER August 28, 2023 first let me acknowledge the absolutely wonderful experience I had being checked in and the first nurse who took care of me was named Kim. Also, the ER was Getting busier and busier after I was put into a room. So they moved me out into the hallway. I was in the ER for approximately an hour before a doctor saw me. I was in excruciating pain. Then I was transferred over to nurse Ruth. When I had an emotional melt down, Ruth gave me a box of tissue and was chuckling that I was crying. I didn’t see her again for the next 45 min. I had to use the bathroom but I couldn’t figure out how to put the bed rail down and of course I couldn’t find Ruth. Finally somebody walked by and I asked them if they could put the bed rail down so that I could go to the bathroom, but by the time I got there, I had already wet myself. So now I’m in pain, I’m freezing, and I’ve wet myself. I believe I got to the ER around 3 o’clock and left at 6:40. I walked out with the IV in my arm. It only took another half an hour for them to notice I was gone and they called me . So how Sierra Vista has made a change in my life… I will never use your hospital again, and I will tell everybody my experience
Had my twin boys there a week ago and was hospitalized with them @ 29 weeks for 2 weeks. All staff in the there are absolutely wonderful. Every nurse I had was kind, supportive, and professional. Genuinely wonderful experience even given the stressful circumstances when I was hospitalized. Couldn't be more thrilled with my experience and very grateful for their care.
All in all 3 stars. This is not a bad place, but it is a place for the economically challenged. You are getting what you pay for. The staff is kind and helpful, they are just not overly joyous or super bubbly. They are knowledgeable! The staff looks overworked and TIRED. I overheard a conversation about nurse shortages and budget cuts, so that can play a huge role in an associates mood. The building is not the best, but again the hospital is a business, and YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, and we have subpar insurance so all this correlates. The ER had a plastic picnic chair in the room, and I’m pretty sure the blanket was older than the building. The BIGGEST concern was the lack of options available, I came in with a referral from Med Stop and visibly swollen ankle. It was painful. After all these test, the results were inconclusive, BUT they didn’t offer ANY medications. No anti-inflammatory or any pain killers. And it was painful. Almost gave 2 stars for that. All in all, it’s still a serviceable hospital. I will try French next time to compare assuming it’s in my insurance network
Doctor Holt in pediatrics is a VINDICTIVE NIGHTMARE. Made me feel trapped when she didn’t respect my decision as a parent to leave the hospital. I felt that she was trying to force steroid treatments on my daughter unnecessarily and then became visibly annoyed and combative when I told her we were leaving — it felt like an abusive boyfriend blocking my path to the door, quite frightening in a hospital setting. I will NEVER go back here if I can help it, this is thee absolute worst hospital in the region.
I was here at Sierra Vista in San Luis Obispo for a scheduled c-section on May 18 2023 and I had, had one already here in April of 2019 that went well so I registered here in 2023 for the next one. Well since 2020 covid times they have gone down hill. My surgery went well the nurses and doctors were great. Other than all the sheets and towels having holes and stains my main complaint and concern is that while I was here in the baby & mommy ward healing and bonding with my baby there was a CONVICT in the room directly across the hall from me. The convict was gaurded by a cop that was armed but the door was usually open as well. The hospital over flow goes into the baby ward ever since Covid. This is so concerning and unsafe. They also have sick people in the baby ward if needed and I was never warned about this never approved this when registering. These newborns immune systems are so fragile and new moms feel so vulnerable. I felt very uncomfortable about it. I only knew this cuz I had a AC not work and it was almost 80 degrees in my room until it was fixed on the third day there. I had to walk the halls to not feel faint. To top it off the convicts or sick people staying there also makes the nurses feel unsafe and uncomfortable. This should be illegal and and how is this acceptable? A baby ward should lock and be a safe environment with only moms and babies and approved visitors...mothers be warned. It was causing me anxiety and made the stay there very uncomfortable and it made it hard for me to breastfeed and if my Husband left I didn't feel safe at all. I have told all my friends not to go here and to choose French Hospital where their Doctors can still attend and its a newer baby ward where it's locked without overflow allowed in the baby ward.
I went to Sierra Vista to deliver my preterm twins and I felt so well taken care of. The labor&delivery nurses were caring, helpful, and attentive. The NICU team is absolutely phenomenal; they are taking the best care of my babies and even though it is heart-breaking to leave them, I am at ease knowing they are in loving, capable hands. They also welcome you to help with all the care tasks, and give you tips and support on breastfeeding, bathing, everything. I also developed several complications after my pregnancy preeclampsia and HELLP and I was closely monitored. The doctors and nurses did a great job answering my questions and being very thorough for my health. I would 100% recommend delivering your child here, especially if they’re going to need intensive care!
As a Student Midwife, CPM I had a phenomenal experience with the ER/NICU staff when we brought in a baby that had arrived precipitously and a bit too early. The staff was so professional, respectful and kind to myself, the Midwife and our clients. Charge nurse Kay and Dr. VanScoy were so warm and calming to the parents. The staff at Sierra Vista does a truly outstanding job taking care of and supporting parents that desire an out of hospital birth but end up needing hospital support after all. No judgement to our out of hospital staff or clients and truly supporting families of all types and needs. We have had nothing but wonderful comments from our Homebirth and Birth Center clients on their experiences at Sierra Vista. Definitely our go-to hospital for transports without hesitation! Top notch professionalism.
