The Silver City Volunteer Fire Department provides First Responder and Fire protection for the Silver City FIre protection district.
Founded in 1964, the Silver City Volunteer Fire Department (SCVFD) is an ALL volunteer department and is located in the central Black Hills area covering a forty-two (42) square mile area for the Silver City Fire Protection District. The SCVFD is a member of the Pennington County Fire Service, works closely with South Dakota State Wildland Fire, U.S. Forest Service, Pennington County Search & Rescue, Rapid City Fire Department, and our adjoining fire departments, Johnson Siding VFD, Rochford VFD, Hill City VFD, Brownsville VFD, and Nemo VFD. The SCVFD is an ISO-Class 9 rated department (from Station 1; and are working on obtaining that status for our new station):
Our department has two (2) stations:
•Station 1 - Silver City, South Dakota
•Station 2 (Merritt Station) - Located off U.S. Highway 385 / Rochford Road behind Cousin's Pizza & Pub / Trout Haven / Sugar Shack on the Pennington & Lawrence County(s) line.
We have twenty-two (22) members on our roster, and the majority of our fire district is made up of U.S. Forest Service land of ponderosa pine forests with wildland-urban interface, large fresh water reservoir, streams, rugged terrain, that's accessible via an off-road / ATV / fire trail network. Our department has wildland, structure, and EMT certified firefighters on the roster.
Silver City VFD protects the lives and property of the Silver City Fire District as first responders to fires, medical emergencies, disasters, and other public safety issues. The Department promotes public safety through fire prevention education programs. Silver City VFD makes significant contributions to the safety of the Silver City Fire District and surrounding mutual aid communities through timely execution of these services.
