Nice, small venue for intimate theater and cultural shows. Seats about 150 people in gallery style seating but comfortable chairs. Adequate stage lighting. Only downside are the toilets. Shared unisex facilities with stalls and urinals which might be difficult for some folks.
Intimate theater, awesome venue, great production/stage play, good microphones. We had such a great time, purchased merchandise after the show. Great location and good space for entertainment. Check the website for latest COVID policies, despite Maryland laws. Mask and vaccination cards are required for entry. I will return for more shows!
If you've never been, make sure u try it. Super cool venue/theatre.
Good afternoon. I’ll first start with how AMAZING the sasho experience was last night, however the start of the day was not so great. We were met at the door with not so great energy by a staff member demanding us to stand against the wall and were informed the boosters were REQUIRED but was not disclosed to us prior to the show. Once we were “cleared” to proceed to our tech run through, there were many injuries one being of myself from debris left on the floor prior to us arriving. There were many complaints of roaches in the dressing rooms and this was also a problem last year! The theater is very outdated & with everything expected from us, we expected a much cleaner, safer space. After a great show, we were interrupted by, again, the same person we started the day with, as she decides during the final “thank you’s” that was the best time to tell us we had 15 minutes to get out. Not only that, she also proceeded to rush our family and friends completely out of the theater and into the RAIN, to wait for the performers to exit the theater. With this being my 3rd time performing at this venue, this has by far been the worst experience and I do not wish to return. If you are in the DMV area seeking a venue, I absolutely do not recommend using this venue.
Black Box Theatre is located in the heart of the entertainment district of Silver Spring, where one can find multiple theaters, restaurants and retail outlets. It's a small venue, accommodating about 100 people or less and offers general admission seating in side chairs arranged in stadium formation, so every seat is "the best seat in the house". They offer a small, informal "concession stand" and food/drinks are not allowed inside the theater. Masks are required. Street parking and public parking garages are available.
In all my years of performing, at different theatres varying in caliber from neighborhood theatres to nationally acclaimed venues, I have NEVER experienced such unprofessionalism from theatre management & highly suggest those looking for spaces to find other places to consider. Starting with the venue being dated & dirty, to the flat out rudeness of the stage manager - from interrupting the show to advise the audience that the facilitator of the event would be charged extra money if they didn’t hurry up and leave - to accusing dancers of mess on stage, on a floor that was full of debris/hadn’t been cleaned prior to arrival, after a dancer was injured by said debris that was left on stage. These are only a couple of examples of the abhorrent, unprincipled behavior that put somewhat of a damper on an otherwise great night. See the previous responses to negative reviews below for perspective on their customer service decorum or lack thereof. I’d strongly implore anyone considering booking this place to get your moneys worth elsewhere.
Always like going to this theater because of the location, parking, intimate staging and the quality of the shows.
Masks required for audience not performers. I was attending a limited audience performance and it is theatre policy for masks required and all gender bathrooms per signage. Lighting was good.
Staff was amazing!! The show was awesome!!!
You can hear everything without microphones! Very intimate and nice theater!
