The Silveyville Cemetery District is a special district comprised of three cemeteries.
The Binghamton cemetery is approximately 10 acres, with only 3.5 acres of developed cemetery, was donated by the Bingham Family around 1859 and is located 7 miles south of Dixon. This is one of the oldest cemeteries in the area. The last burial was in 1957.
The Tremont cemetery is located 9 miles north-east of Dixon, consisting of approximately two acres, with a church. The land was donated by the Hyde family around 1860. Burials being of mostly German decent. The church was built in 1863 and was completed and dedicated in 1871. The church was known as the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Tremont. The Tremont cemetery is still an active cemetery and the church is available for rent for weddings/funerals and other special occasions.
The Dixon cemetery is approximately 20 acres currently. Originally, it began as only 9 1/2 acres purchased from the McKinley Family in 1877. It was sold in 2 sections and managed by the I.O.O.F. (Oddfellows) and Masonic Lodges. Later the district purchased an additional 3 1/2 acres from the Kilkenny family in 1928 to make up the back sections - sections 1 & 2. The Silveyville Cemetery District was created in 1927 with Karl Muller being the first District Superintendent, under the direction of the original trustees; Rowland Moss, Homer Brown and Otto Eggert and with Supervisor Carl Schmeiser. In 1963, another 3 1/2 acres was purchased from the estate of Annie Kilkenny; just over an acre was purchased from the Dixon Game Conservation Club in 1968 along with another purchase of approximately 3 1/2 acres in 1979. There are over 600 men & women veterans interred in the Dixon cemetery. They are remembered each Memorial Day and Veterans day with the placement of U.S. Flags on each of their graves by the American Legion Post with help from the local boys scouts.
Also interred in the Dixon cemetery is an unknown solider from the Civil War.
