I have been a licensed, practicing esthetician since 2004 and really love what I do. I have worked in spas in New York, LA and Seattle. I offer Dr. Hauschka Organic facials and products , lash and brow tinting, and I also use the highest of quality strip and hard wax to suit your needs. ::WHEN TO BE CAUTIOUS::
You’re pregnant, take birth control, hormone replacement or antibiotics. Your skin may be more sensitive to waxing.
You use powerful exfoliators on your skin. Salicylic acid, alpha-hydroxy acid or enzymes all strip cells from the skin. It’s all too much exfoliation combined with waxing, and could make skin red, bleed or even turn scabby. So stop using these products in the area getting waxed for three days before, and three to four days after waxing.
You recently drank a lot of caffeine or alcohol. These stimulants in your system can cause skin to be extra sensitive to waxing, meaning you could get more red or inflamed than usual. Give yourself a couple hours after drinking coffee or alcohol before getting waxed.
::WHEN NOT TO GET WAXED::
You currently take Accutane, or have stopped taking it less than a year ago.
You use Retin-A, or Renova.
You recently got Botox or collagen injections, waxing shouldn’t be done in that area.
You’re in cancer therapy getting chemotherapy or radiation.
Leg waxing if you have varicose veins.
You have been in direct sunlight for a long period of time or tanning bed within the last 24 hours.
::AFTERCARE ADVICE FOR CLIENTS::
Redness and bumps are a normal reaction to waxing. In most cases these will calm down and fade within 48 hours. For those who have quite a bad hives reaction (raised bumps) taking some over the counter Anti-Histamine tablets can help with this. Discuss any medication you purchase with your pharmacist to ensure it is suitable.
You may find that your skin is a little more heat sensitive at the moment, having a shower or bath is absolutely fine - but keep it warm and not too hot. For the next 24 - 48 hours you will be best avoiding the following:
Hot baths or showers (warm is fine);
Saunas, steam rooms or hot tubs;
Tanning (sunbathing, sunbeds or fake tans);
Sport, gym, or other exercise;
Swimming.
I recommend that you don't wear clothes that are too tight fitting, and avoid touching the treated area without washing your hands first. Also do not apply any skincare products, deodorants, powders etc to the area, other than those that have been recommended. Pure Aloe gel or pure Shea butter is a good topical to help soothe irritated skin. Also cool compresses with a cold, wet wash cloth to the area, or some ice wrapped in a wash cloth if skin is still feeling irritated.
You may notice a small amount of regrowth after a week or so. It can take up to four treatments for your hair to get on one growth cycle that gives the best results, especially if you are new to waxing.
To help avoid ingrown hairs starting a few days after your appointment, gently scrub the skin daily in the bath or shower using a loofah, exfoliating mitt or product. I really like the exfoliating gloves you can find at any drug store and using them daily in the shower is what really helps to prevent ingrowns from happening.
