Sister Jose Women's Center is a place of respite, community, and empowerment for homeless women in Tucson, Arizona. We are sisters helping sisters.
Sr. Jose Women's Center was founded in 2010 by a group of women from Our Mother of Sorrows Parish as a way to honor the legacy of Sr. Jose Hobday. The Center has now become truly ecumenical in its makeup; women of many faiths staff, run and maintain the Center. The Center is a place of respite for homeless women in Tucson, Arizona. A capital campaign is now in place to move the Center to a larger facility.
The Sr. Jose Women’s Center of Tucson, Arizona is dedicated to the care and nurture of homeless women within our community. To our sisters without shelter, we provide beds; to those without food, we give nourishment; and, to those without purpose, we offer encouragement. We are women reaching out to women with dignity, respect and compassion.
The women we serve come from all walks of life, some suffering from problems we can only imagine, others who were living a life just like our own until recently. Women experiencing homelessness are young and old, well-educated and illiterate, employed and unemployed. They come from all religions, cultures, races and ethnicities. They are our sisters, mothers, grandmothers, daughters and friends.
From January – September 2015 Sr. Jose Women’s Center has served 5276 women. Each month, larger numbers of women visit our center seeking assistance. Services include 3467 lunches, 1826 showers and 1233 laundry services.
