Sixteen Mile Creek (Halton Region)

Description

Sixteen Mile Creek is a river in Halton Region in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada. It is in the Great Lakes Basin, and flows from the Niagara Escarpment through the towns of Milton and Oakville to Lake Ontario. It was previously known to the Mississauga Indians in their language as Ne-sauga y-onk or niizhozaagiwan ("having two outlets") and to the French as Rivière de Gravois ("gravelly river").Like many creeks draining into Lake Ontario, Sixteen Mile Creek has cut a deep valley that is home to a broad range of wildlife, including whitetail deer, raccoons, foxes, opossum, and squirrels. The forest contains tree species typical of the Carolinian forest habitat, although since this is close to the northern limit of this zone, some are poorly represented. The total area of the drainage basin is 372km2.In Oakville, it also forms part of Glen Abbey Golf Course and is home to the Oakville Yacht Squadron.TributariesEast Sixteen Mile Creek (left)Middle Sixteen Mile Creek (left)

Beautiful trail. It's a kid friendly trail by the creek.
Lovely trails, clean, it's really nice to walk by the water.
If you are looking for a nice place to hike and take in the beauty of nature, this is your place. So much beauty.
Nice trail. Get there early as they’re are limited parking in the lot. Wish there was signage on the trails. It’s a little confusing. Nice views though. Creek was nice too
a beautiful trail perfect for a nice walk or run. It’s a hidden gem, well maintained and it’s really pleasant to walk along the creek
Beautiful hike in the fall. Lost my way a bit as there are different paths to take within the trail. There is up and downhill slopes as well as people walking, biking or dog walking. Would come again!
Tucked away behind a modern and newly established suburb in Oakville, Sixteen Mile Creek offers a huge trail for hundreds of residents and trail seekers to explore at once. There are numerous entrances to this trail so parking is never an issue. The Moccasin trail is quite long which is certainly rare for a suburban community in Southern Ontario. It has great elevation for beautiful tree top views of the landscape and creek, and you can even venture down creekside as you journey through the trail. Not a very strenuous hike if you decide to do the complete trail, but also not a walk in the park considering the hilly elevation. Great place to visit!
Walking along the upper middle road bridge which crosses the sixteen mile creek at the most beautiful view, you will fully enjoy the Fall season. not easy to find a parking, also it takes a bit of walk, but why not which is the best way to immerse the environment.
Amazing fall view.
Great river for paddling!
