Sustainable Skidmore is the Office at Skidmore College which works to promote sustainability on campus, and beyond!
Sustainable Skidmore helps to organize and engage students, faculty, and staff at Skidmore College around sustainability issues on campus, in the community of Saratoga Springs, and beyond. Much of the work focuses on student engagement and leadership development around sustainability: We hire students as interns that work on a variety of topics including waste management, composting, local food, energy, assessment, and more. The office also hires a team of 10 students each academic year for the S-Rep team, who live in the residence halls and work to education and change behavior as related to sustainability on campus. This office also oversees the North Woods, a campus owned forest, and this includes hiring students to act as North Woods Stewards during the summer and the academic year. These students help to maintain trails and educate others about the woods. We also hire a student each summer to manage the Skidmore Student Garden.
In addition to student engagement, Sustainable Skidmore works on faculty/staff involvement in these issues, event planning, alumni connections for sustainability, land management, assessment of sustainability, planning for sustainability, research, and climate change mitigation. Each year we manage the Give+Go program, which helps to donate unwanted items from the end-of-year move-out on campus to local and regional non-profits.
Sustainable Skidmore works to promote and advocate for sustainability and highlights sustainable programs at Skidmore College.
