I love this campground! I visited on a hot weekend in July with my boyfriend. We opted for the camp site with electricity. It was the perfect amount of space for us, had a plug at the edge of the space, a picnic table, and fire pit. It was quiet the weekend we visited and we were one of the few campers there. The campground itself was well maintained and had several tipis and other structures on site. The place had a lot of charm and soul that made me enjoy my stay even more. It's close by to various hiking options as well as amenities of French Lick bars, restaurants, and casino. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!
It's such a fun place we had it to ourselves for a few days it was quiet and relaxing. The owner was very friendly and loved when Dusty the dog would come and visit...lol My girls loved the fishing. We caught quite a few. We stayed in the wagon it was nice having cool air at the end of the day!! We can't wait to plan another trip...
Although the camping was fairly rustic, there was nearby running water, flush toilets, and showers. The Tee-pee was a fun experience to sleep in with plenty of fresh air flow. We enjoyed finding tadpoles in the small pond, volleyball, and jumbo chess. Staff was very kind.Rooms: 4/5
Great!! November 2022 The owner, Hank, was very friendly. This place is laid-back and unstructured. Just be respectful as a guest and clean up after yourself! Since it’s the off-season and we were blessed with great weather in November, I decided to rent the covered wagon. Since I was alone it almost seemed like a little too much room, but it was amazingly quiet! And heated!! Think of it as camping with heat and you’ll love it. It’s a semi permanent tent, so bring plenty of bedding. There’s also air conditioning, however I did not need that in November. There’s plenty of hot water at the shower house, which was clean and spacious. I wish I had discovered this rustic campground during the warmer months. I didn’t have time to hike, but there are maps that show the trails. I’ll definitely be back if we get more mild weather this winter if Sleeping Bear is open in the winter months. Thanks for a great and QUIET stay!! -Jay
My wife made reservations for us based on pictures online, Pictures appear to be several years old. Place is rundown and overgrown. Bathrooms are anything but modern, yes they have a flushing toilet, the shower is 2 valves, which is very unsafe especially for young kids. The Chess and Checker fields were over grown to the point they were unplayable. The Tepi as expected was very spartan. However the next morning we left and stayed elsewhere. Would not recommend this property.
Unfortunately we did not enjoy our experience. If you're legit camping and bringing all your stuff, the tent/camper spots are great. But we tried the "glamping" covered wagon - and roughing it was an understatement. The 4 cots provided were soaking wet from all the rain coming in we needed umbrellas inside, foam cushion on one cot had mold all over it, heater smelled incredibly awful and gave us all a headache and we killed 2 huge spiders right away. I would recommend this place if you're bringing everything of your own. Don't get me wrong, I've tent camped my whole life and should've just done that, but the covered wagon wasn't even livable. We left after 15 minutes. Great idea, poorly executed.
I was there years ago and it was great, unfortunately this beautiful camp ground has really been let go. We endured only one night before leaving. Just one of those that should have stayed a memory.
Nice place right between French Lick resort and Patoka lake. Spacious spots for camping and few tepees to book as well. The owner is very responsive. I enjoyed the stay. It was nice and quiet, we were able to gaze at the starts too. Recommend for a small primitive style vacation.
Well I was excited to visit because of pass reviews and photos. But got nothing what the picture shows. Kids where excited to do the little the activities on the property. But everything was broken and over grown. Yes the dogs where friendly but felt super sad for them because they were cover in bugs and fleas and my kids wanted to play with him but had to try to keep them away. Somebody needs to really put some TLC again in the place for real. Especially when they over charged me. Sorry but after a 4 hour drive was disappointed. Two stars just because it gave me quite time with the family.
It was wonderful! There to sleep only but it was so dark that you could see the stars. We arrived very late at night but were still able to pull into a spot they were huge by the way! and set up camp. The only issue we had was the constant barking of the dogs aaaaaaaaall night; it was like they were having a very loud, angry conversation. The bathrooms had wolf spiders in their showers and the only sink for all bathrooms was outside and had an empty soap dispenser.
