We are a group of dedicated Smithsonian scientists applying research to support the conservation and sustainable use of ocean resources.
The Marine Conservation program, at the Smithsonian Marine Station in Fort Pierce, Florida conducts applied research to provide the knowledge, tools and technical support needed to secure and manage marine resources today and for future generations. We engage with communities, industry partners, NGOs and Governments to support science based decision making.
We focus on conservation challenges with strong interests in marine reserve design, animal and human movement ecology and populations genetics. Our research helps to build solutions to critical problems facing the marine environment around the world including the Caribbean, Pacific ocean and the Andaman Sea.
