This is a very good resort that has some terrain for just about everybody. They have a beginner area over in timber Creek which is a great place to start out and progressively work your way through greens and very easy blues. The main resort area also has a long green run and a huge selection of blue runs and black diamond runs. It can get extremely crowded on busy weekends however and lift lines can be punishingly long. I found most of the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful.
The drive into Kirkwood was great, as soon as you are on the Kirkwood grounds, the workers will assist you in parking your car. I would have given this resort 5 stars but the resort does not have as many amenities as some ski parks do. Also, we were told to wear our masks while eating indoors. Made no sense.
Kirkwood is a beautiful ski area with some great runs! It's nice because it is not near as crowded as Heavenly. Despite no snow in 6 weeks, coverage is still good. Parking can run short but they do have shuttle busses running.
Kirkwood has amazing powder and amazing trails with great skiing and snowboarding lessons. My only problems with this place is one of the managers paid us double for some food and would not let us get the receipt and was caught in the process. Also while going of the lift i was given the dirty look multiple times from one worker for holding on the seat bar and not putting the safety bar does even when nobody uses it. All in all the resort is mind blowing but the customer service is disappointing.
Great resort to ski at. Has one of the most exciting double black diamond trails I've tried. It's good for advanced skiiers. The views at top are usually good looking at the valley. The only thing i would say is tricky is parking. We left sf at 6:00am and still had some trouble to get there due to traffic and heavy parking flow. It is not a huge huge resort but enough for having an awesome fun weekend, get some challenging trails
Fun ski/snowboard mountain with a great bowl. Unfortunately when we visited there hadn't been any new snow in weeks, so the bowls were firm and icy. Plenty of trails lower on the mountain provided an exceptionally fun day.
I loved skiing here! They do a great job manicuring the trails and lifts. And they have a great selection of all different types of terrain. Definitely worth checking out if you're in Tahoe!
Have been hitting Kirkwood for over 20 years now for some of the most technical runs in Tahoe, and they always have the deepest amount of snow because they are located about an hour south of Lake Tahoe. My first borne learned to ski here. Some key issues to be aware of: —Kids ski school area is at the first lodge when driving in called Timber lodge—this is nicely tucked away from the rest of the resort. —There are many condos to stay at that are truly ski in/ski out, but dining and shopping options are limited. There aren’t really any cities located nearby Kirkwood. It is best to bring food if staying in a condo with a kitchen. —As of April-2022, attached are pics from our balcony of the Mountain Club Lodge Room #s 201-203 rooms are adjoined to make a 2-bedroom condo. This unit is located within a stone’s throw of “The Wall” lift and you can easily ski down to Solitude or Cornice. —Food options are really limited—you need to bring food or make sure you order dinner BEFORE 330p and just save it for dinner time because there are NO dining options after 330p, and the tiny market closes at 5p. —There still are no options to bring your dog into a Kirkwood rental unit.
very good skiing when there is a lot of snow or a little because of its location, snow melts slowly and the terrain is actually challenging. would not recommend for beginners as there are not so many starter slopes.
Had a perfect day out here at Kirkwood - blue skies, sunshine, powder conditions, packed just right, music, chicken sandwich & fries with jot sauce! Could it be any better? Yeah - raffle to celebrate their 50th! Really great vibe and friendly people. Our new favorite mountain for the winters. Thank you Kirkwood!
