History:
Based upon a highly successful model for youth baseball, initial planning for youth soccer and lacrosse competitive teams started in 2003 with the search for the ideal location. What needed to be created was a Tournament Park unlike anything else in the world that would provide valuable programming for competitive youth teams. The first step was to find a geographic region where the whole family could combine participation in a soccer or lacrosse tournament with a summer vacation. The second important aspect was to acquire enough land to implement the full scope of the plan.
The final site selection focused on the town of Fort Ann in Washington County, New York, situated just minutes from the bustling summer resort town of Lake George and the town voted “best main street in America” Saratoga Springs. Golden Goal Tournament Park was born as the future destination for youth soccer and lacrosse teams from around the world.
In 2004 and 2005, as plans developed and the project was engineered, leaders of the soccer and lacrosse world began to realize the void in programming that Golden Goal would fill. Never before had such an extensive facility and unique program been planned for the core travel player regardless of skill level.
At Golden Goal the focus is on providing a competitive environment (the Olympic-style experience) for serious participants from club level travel teams to elite players. The experience provided, equally benefits teams of all skill levels as the emphasis is on “trying your best” and not necessarily “being the best”. The initial focus on middle school aged participants for the core summer week-long programs is intentional as they are in the formative years of their development and a great impact can be made to improve their future lifestyle choices. Other programming offered to high school age participants throughout the year provides guidance and direction for those participants seeking to advance their involvement in the sport.
Golden Goal opened its gates on June 28, 2007 and with the final completion of the first phase the park will accommodate up to 60 teams per week on just 70 acres of the 200-acre site. Engineers and architects are developing plans for the Hall of Fame as well as the balance of the project.
Golden Goal’s future resides within the young soccer and lacrosse participants who shall become the future Hall of Fame inductees. Each year these athletes will be the ones that determine the legacy of youth sports and that of Golden Goal. It is for this reason Golden Goal was envisioned, built and exists; to become the Ultimate Destination for the kids, families, coaches and officials to share an extraordinary experience together and create wonderful memories that will last a lifetime.
