I've gone to the Somers clinic several times now for different drs. Everyone is very informative and kind.
1st I have seen Dr. Shepler and his PAs for general health issue. They are all VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE, professional and truly interested in my well being. A++++++++++++++++++ 2nd I have been to PT here. They were helpful with some lower back issues I was experiencing. A+++++ 3rd Dr. Hoppe for Head, Neck, Ears nose & throat. She is VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE and caring too. A+++++++++++ 4th Hearing Aid Dept. They are able to test your hearing and set you up with what you need to hear better. It is nice that there are so many great Dr.s and other things available ×-ray, lab and more in this clinic. I also appreciate not having to walk a great distance to get where I need to go.
If I could give this place zero stars I would. Unfriendly to people of color. Rude brash and abrasive! I was sitting for a Dr. aptmnt when the Doctor walked passed me and left sick. I was rescheduled A MONTH OUT! On the reschedule their was a very bad accident at the intersection by the clinic and was re-routed. The receptionist the only nice one TOLD THE DR> I was 4 Minutes late because of the accident that the clinic was aware of and the Dr. told me to re-schedule again! I was told that the Doctor has a 5 minute re-schedule rule. Since I am the only Black person that I have ever saw at this clinic, and none of the staff are Black, I would say this is not a good place for PEOPLE OF COLOR! STAY AWAY!!!!
I was a patient of Dr. Barsness. He was wonderful. He had a falling out with the hospital and the clinic canceled my appointment several weeks in a row. I got scheduled with Dr. Rebekah Costello. On my 1st visit I was 5 minutes late due to an accident on the way to the clinic. I had called the office on my way there and was on hold for almost 10 minutes. By the time they answered I was in the parking lot but they told me I had to reschedule. Unfair. So about a week later Cheryl from the office called me to say I had disability paperwork there and she would start to fill out what she could and ask Dr. Costello to fill it out for me at my appointment. I finally got to meet Dr. Costello and she was rude from the time she walked in the door. Didn’t listen to my medical issues and said she knew nothing about the paperwork I needed filled out for my disability. Dr. Costello even went to the extreme to call a few of my other Dr’s and say that I lied to them. Dr. Costello never filled out any paperwork for me. Actually I hadn’t even seen/met Dr. Costello when I had my other Dr. fill out my paperwork. She also called another doctor of mine to say that that I was doubling on my RX’s. This is a lie also. They have a list of the medications I’m on and they AREN’T doubled up. Dr. Costello was the liar because I seen the other Dr. before my appointment with her. I called my other Dr.s office to clear it up and then called the Somers clinic to try to talk to a manager. Had to leave a message. Several times now I’ve left a message with NO call back. I also asked the clinic for my disability paperwork and no one could find it. Imagine that. I’ve been dealing with a chronic cough, headaches/migraines, low grade fevers and shortness of breath since April. Plus I have an auto immune disease. If I get sick I’m down for the count for awhile. Dr. Costello insisted that I’m not sick. Now I received paperwork in the mail saying she discharged me as a patient. I’ve been in the hospital twice in the last week but again according to her I’m not sick. So if you want to see a Dr. that doesn’t care about your health. She’s your Dr.
I had a horrible experience both in the walk-in and with dr. Costello. Walk in suggested to just wait and see dr. costello after the weekend even though i was in pain. Dr. Costello was in such a hurry to leave the room, she didnt address all of my concerns, she keeps sending me to different doctors and when i told her that i thought 2 of my symptoms were related she laughed at me.
I went to the clinic to get checked out. I slipped on some ice and was seen by the nurse practioner. She walked in and said hi and proceeded to say we don't give out narcotics. It took me by surprise. I was there to make sure I didn't slip a discount or something. I was in a lot of pain and wanted to get checked out. I told her I wasn't there for drug and I wanted to make sure I didn't hurt myself severely. Again she told me that they don't give out narcotics. I felt that she look at me and immediately thought I wanted narcotics. I'm Hispanic and have tattoos. I got mad and upset, because I felt profiled. Is this what people have to worry about when you look different? You go to the hospital because something is wrong and you need a physician's help. Not to be treated like your an addict. When you're not one. Its sad that some medical care providers are like this. I will never go to that facility again. I felt people should know what happened there. Maybe they can avoid being treated this way.
Be Warned. I called the SOMERS Clinic today about 1 hour before my 16 1/2 yr old had a physical appointment and explained that I would like to give verbal permission for him to be seen. They said no to that. I said OK, I'll come in as I'm leaving the house now and just FYI I have a 5 yr old that is going to be coming with and we will wear masks. They said no to that. I explained my husband is working until 6:30 pm and cannot watch our 5 yr old. I further explained our little daycare was closed and I wasn't aware immediate minor couldn't be there. I asked to speak with the office manager and re-explained the circumstances. They said No, you'll need to reschedule when you can get a sitter to watch your 5 yr old. I then asked to check with the provider and see if I sign something at curbside, come in and sign and then go back to car or if the doctor could call me via telehealth while in the room with my son to answer health history questions and again was told no. I asked isn't it my choice if my 5 yr old comes in with a mask? Again, was told No, not your choice. The provider, the manager were aware at this point that I was sitting in my car outside their office and yet would not let my son get his physical. Finally, after realizing defeat and a complete waste of our time I said they should have informed me when scheduling that only 1 parent and nobody else could attend the visit. The office manager responded " I don't think it is our responsibility to tell patients that-afterall it's COVID". As working parents with more than one minor, schools closed, some daycares closed and not wanting to leave my kids with my elderly Mom this was unacceptable in my opinion. I was trying to provide any solution possible but the staff and provider were not willing and that is a shame. Maybe someone reads these and sees my SUGGESTION to send a reminder call/text/email the day before I received no reminder stating No minor child allowed with another child's visit. Would have saved alot of hassle on my part.
As of right now. I'm not too happy with this clinic. My daughter has a high Fever, They asked us where to send the Medicine, we told them Walmart next to there building. We find out over an hour later that they filled it at CVS which already closed it's pharmacy. then we try to call them back, they are closed as well. My wife had to make called to a place we thought was a sister hospital There not sort of but they are taking care of the issue. I'm left running around for my poor sick daughter.. I know people make mistakes, but this is not one to make with a child of a high fever. Plus why are they swabbing people for stripe throat before the doctor looks at a patient. Doc did not think it was necessary to test for stripe throat yet she was surprised that they already did it. It's my kids health so I'll gladly pay it but these are all things that leave a bad taste in my mouth. I'm sure it's not a bad place but it's not a good first impression. :-
Dr. Will has no bed side manner, took my daughter there who was crying in pain, thought she has strep. He said, " why are you here is just a cold" so I asked well she should go to school today or keep her home if her throat is so sore and he states back, " I don't care what you do" that was a few weeks ago. Now this morning the office calls my house @6:45 in the morning to tell me that the paperwork I dropped off they do not have her shot record, so I need to get that from previous doctor. So I ask why are you calling my house @ 6:45 for that and she says, "Well I am here working! Office staff is rude and Dr. Will is full of himself. The only reason I stay there is for Dr. Andrea.
I was in extreme pain and needed Immediate medical attention, so I went to the closest hospital I could get to which as United hospitals Immediate/Urgent Care medical building in Somers. I checked into the facility and waited to be seen by a doctor. another lady came in with a minor issue with her pinky finger. she was told that there was someone ahead of her, which was me, and that she could either come back to get the shot to fix her finger, or she could be seen after me. I was taken to the examination room, and I can hear the nurse practitioner going in to see the lady with the minor injury, before coming to see about my needs. I was sitting in the examination room, in extreme pain. I tried to leave the examination room, to go to the emergency room because I was in so much pain. the nurse practitioner told me that she wanted to take care of the patient who was after me with the minor injury because she can get her in and out quickly, regardless of the fact that I had a more urgent need. Please be aware that if you have an emergency need, go to the emergency room. This location is not a place to go if you are having a real emergency need. they should rename this location minor care, instead of Immediate care. If ever I need urgent medical attention in the future I would just go to the emergency room, and when I have a cut or something like that, I'll go to Urgent Care.
