Sonoma Smiles Dentistry in Rohnert Park
Most general or family dentistry services are put in place to keep your teeth, gums and overall oral health in great shape. This often includes:
Professional cleanings
Dental exams
Oral cancer screenings
X-rays
Dental sealants
Professional Cleanings
Part of practicing good oral hygiene is having a professional dental cleaning performed every six months. Our highly trained dental staff always ensures the cleanings are gentle. They also ensure the dental cleaning remove plaque from your teeth, far beyond what normal brushing can do. By removing hardened deposits that cannot be removed by routing cleaning and brushing at home, it is the intent of a professional cleaning to further prevent cavities, periodontal disease, and gingivitis. Here’s what you can expect at your professional teeth cleaning:
Tooth scaling
Tooth polishing
To have your teeth looking and feeling their best!
Dental Exams
Dental exams will generally complement the professional cleaning and can be done at the same time. These are an important part of your oral health because it allows the dentist or hygienist to clean your teeth while looking for issues such as gum inflammation or bone loss. Your risk for developing tooth decay will be evaluated as will other oral health problems. An exam may also dictate getting x-rays or other diagnostic procedures. You can expect to discuss your diet and oral hygiene habits with us as well as other issues that may affect your oral health. During your dental exam you will also have the ability to ask us questions about your oral and dental health as well as any interest you may have in a cosmetic procedure such as teeth whitening.
Oral Cancer Screening
An oral cancer screening will be conducted during your exam and will consist of us inspecting your face, neck, lips and mouth to look for any signs of cancer. The exam is quick and painless and only takes a few minutes.
X-Rays
Rohnert Park Dentist provides xrays with each dental exam
X-rays are used to help our office diagnosis damage and disease that may potentially exist but which can’t be spotted with the naked eye. New patients are recommended x-rays to determine the present status of their oral health and to determine if the patient may have cavities, to examine the status of the gums, and take a look at the growth and development of the teeth.
Dental Sealants
Dental sealants are applied to the grooves of teeth on the chewing surfaces in order to protect teeth from tooth decay. Most commonly placed in the teeth of children, sealants protect the chewing surfaces of teeth by preventing germs and bacteria to accumulate in these hard-to-clean areas. These are a common treatment most children receive but adults can benefit from dental sealants as well.
