At the South Florida School of Sleep Medicine, the Polysomnographic Technician program prepares the student for a career in the field of sleep medicine. The graduate will be able to educate and prepare the patient, perform a sleep study by monitoring and troubleshooting sleep equipment and compile the results for the reading physician.
The curriculum includes anatomy and physiology of the brain, heart and lungs, recognizing normal and abnormal sleep patterns and knowledge of normal and abnormal breathing patterns, center safety and therapeutic techniques.
The student will gain experience by working in an accredited sleep facility.
Graduates may obtain the CPSGT and RPSGT credential – Registered Polysomnographic Technologist through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists – BRPT after the appropriate experience requirements are met.
Career opportunities include hospital based and independently, privately owned sleep centers as well as research centers and sales and installation applications.
