South Park Bridge

Description

The South Park Bridge is a Scherzer rolling lift double-leaf bascule bridge in Seattle, Washington, United States. The bridge is operated by the King County government, It carries automobile traffic over the Duwamish River near Boeing Field, just outside the city limits of Seattle, and is named for the nearby South Park neighborhood of Seattle. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, as the 14th Avenue South Bridge. The original bridge was constructed in 1929–31. Prior to its 2010 closure for rebuilding, about 20,000 vehicles used the bridge daily, and it was a main connection to South Park's main business district. Due to safety concerns, the bridge was closed to traffic on June 30, 2010, and its bascule draw-span leaves were removed in August 2010. County officials secured funds for replacement of the draw span, and work to replace the bridge began in May 2011. The bridge reopened to traffic on June 30, 2014, retaining much of its original structure, but with new draw-span leaves.ReplacementThe original bridge was already in poor condition when it was further damaged by the Nisqually earthquake of 2001. In 2002, King County inspectors gave the bridge a score of 6 out of a possible 100, per Federal Highway Administration criteria, and the rating later fell to as low as 4. This compares to a score of 50 for the I-35W Mississippi River bridge, which collapsed in August 2007.

A short bridge across the Duwamish Waterway connecting Seattle and South Park. The bridge has sidewalks on both sides for pedestrians and bikes. The views are ok, I wish they were better though. On the south side is an airplane parking lot which is pretty cool, on the other side towards the city, you can't really see city skyline or anything.
The bridge is an iconic fixture of the South Park neighborhood. It’s a drawbridge over a tidal river with occasional barge or tall sailboat traffic. This area is near the limit of industrial barge or large boat depth for the river, after this point it is too shallow for big boats.
Phew! I was worried there would be no public forum for me to review this bridge. Bridgeview Quarterly is too elitist. This is where the people go to review bridges!
New-ish bridge with interesting art made from the old bridge components.
It's a good bridge.
Great place to sit in traffic!
If you like death arches, this is a good one to stand on. In a completely unrelated issue related to my deathly fear of heights, this well engineered death trap is stylish with pieces of architecture from the old bridge. Not to mention has a very quick raising and lowering apparatus. Stop for the Pokestops or because you died from this murder machine. Marked a star off because they strapped trash to the side of the towers once because uh... art? I feel it's a bit too on the nose for being a bridge over one of the most polluted rivers in Washington.
Very pretty to walk on. Allot of car noise but nice view of the 737maxs stored on the Boeing tarmac and sailboats. Waiting and waiting
Popped my FN tire
It is a bridge and has not collapsed, which is pretty good for Washington. It has a large clock that is incorrect. Three stars?
