Description

Southerleigh, Fine Food & Brewery, will be the new restaurant in the Historic Brewhouse at Pearl. Named for the prevailing Gulf breeze and the Texas coast’s proud sense of place, Southerleigh will serve Chef Jeff Balfour’s modern take on Texas’ cross-cultural cuisine from seafood, to beef, to small plates. The on-premise brewery will offer a rotating array of original recipe, craft batch beers from Master Brewer, Les Locke.

Southerleigh is rooted at the unique intersection of cultures that make up the storied richness of Texas and Pearl. This culinary crossroads (Coastal, Cowboy, Spanish, German, Creole... all the flavors of Texas’ historic roux) is where Chef Jeff Balfour, born in Galveston, crafts a cuisine of both contemporary wit and breezy Southern charm.

Whether you‘re enjoying date night in the majestic dining rooms or catching up with old friends in the Beer Garden - May Our Paths Cross at Southerleigh.

Took a party of 12 to Southerly on a Thursday evening. Service was good for a single waitress helping out 12 people. Overall, the food was very good, albeit roughly $35 a person. They do offer a 15% military discount which is nice. The calamari appetizer was awesome and the side salad was huge. The brewed in house beers were okay, nothing spectacular, but everyone who had a cocktail raved about them. The fish was a big hit, the chicken was super tender and moist, and the steak was perfectly cooked. The key lime cheesecake was great and the pineapple upside down cake was awesome. We sat outside, which was not a great choice for San Antonio in August. There weren't any misters to cut the heat.
Lively rustic vibe located in the Pearl Brewery. Our waitress was super helpful. We arrived at 1:00pm so we ordered off the brunch/lunch menu. We started off with drinks. We ordered the fried chicken sandwich, shrimp boil, Belgium waffles, Chicken and Waffles, and Crab Mac and Cheese. We all shared, so we could have a sample of everything. Everything was delicious. Now I will break it down by my opinion of the meal. The crab Mac and Cheese -lacked flavor, for my liking. I couldn’t taste the crab. So, i drizzled some of the juice from the shrimp boil on it, and loved that combination. Chicken and Waffles- this was my favorite out of the meals. The chicken was juicy and cooked perfectly. The waffle was fluffy and the syrup was flavorful and delicious. The Belgium waffle was delicious also. Fried Chicken Sandwich- I loved the crust and flavor, but the chicken was dry. Other than that it would have been amazing. Shrimp boil- I thought it was seasoned perfectly. It was delicious. We ended our meal with a gooey warm cinnamon roll topped with cream cheese frosting. We will definitely be back.
One of the best restaurants at The Pearl. Brought our friends visiting from out of town and they were blown away! Everything came perfectly cooked, flavorful and generous portions. Our waitress was so friendly, she gave us lots of recommendations. Wonderful take on Southern food and beyond!!!
Simply hands down a can’t miss in San Antonio. We visited with a reservation on a Friday night at 5:30pm and every detail was perfect. Seated immediately, kind staff at the doors to guide us in, greeted warmly by our server Meredith, tasted a flight of exceptional beers from the micro brewery - all of this was exquisite and we hadn’t even tried the food yet. The duck egg rolls and beet salad were both delicious and then we saw the mushroom soup so had to taste. That dish we will remember forever! Our entrees were also a hit kampachi for my husband and scallops for me. We couldn’t say no to the coconut key lime cheesecake and glad we didn’t. We can’t wait to be back. Wish we got the runners name - he was so friendly! Thanks Meredith and Philippe for the great conversation and service!
Great interesting and historical location. Service is courteous, but southern slow. Not in anyway bad as there is so much to look at. The location is on the river elk but alway from the downtown location and busyness. It is also attached and next to Hotel Emma. We had the steak, carrots and a few other dishes. The steak was perfectly cooked, tender, juicy and flavorful. Top with potatoes and gravy sauce, No need to add any steak sauce here. Vegetarian options: Plenary of GF free and vegetarian friendly food. Modifications are accepted and welcome. The side orders are shared and large Wheelchair accessibility: All areas are level and wheel chair access friendly. Multiple ways in and out.
Restaurant/brewery is part of a beautiful hotel, Hotel Emma. The inside of the restaurant has a classy industrial feel. The outside patio is great to people watch. They brew their own beers here and I enjoyed their Saba Copper Alt. We ordered the deviled eggs, pretzel and salad for appetizer and their fried chicken and biscuit with a side of fingerling potato and corn bread for dinner. There was a mishap with the kitchen but the staff took care of it. The staff were attentive and extremely nice. The food was only ok. I would come back for ambiance and drinks but would go somewhere else for food.
Came here on a Monday night. Laurence was our waiter. He was very attentive and professional. I loved how he had some recommendations for us. We started off with some drinks and appetizer. Drinks and App: The Cellerman Cocktail 5/5 Mangoes & sticky rice Beer 5/5 Fried Calamari with curry sauce We absolutely loved our drink. The Cellerman was basically an old fashion. It was very strong which was great! The beer was perfect. The calamari was so good because it came with a curry dipping sauce. They were not skimpy. It was generous portion for Calamari. We had the Famous Fried Chicken and Pork Schnitzel. We also ordered the Crab Mac for the side. Famous Fried Chicken 5/5 Pork Schnitzel 5/5 Crab Mac 1/5 The fried chicken was delicious. The Pork Schnitzel was perfect...coming from someone that used to live in Germany and ate Pork Schnitzel frequently. The homemade pastaSpaetzle served with the pork was delicious. The texture was softer than pasta. The Crab Mac was dry and had no taste to it. Very disappointed especially for the price of it being $18. I've had fast food mac and cheese that tasted 10 times better. Other than that the portions were generous. It is a little pricey but it was a great dinner for date night. We would definitely come back.
A super cool spot! The interior was so Intirguing and historic looking. The atmosphere on the patiowhere I sat was wonderful as well, with a nice view of the fountain. The server was so sweet and answered all the questions I had about the antelope! I did go for it and it did not disappoint! The blackberry demi glaze to compliment was out of this world!!!! I did go with chefs recomendation of medium rare but would possibly go for rare next time 10/10 would go back!
Southerleigh in San Antonio, Texas is a must-visit destination for foodies! The fried chicken is perfectly crispy and seasoned to perfection, while the lobster mac and cheese is a decadent and indulgent treat. But what truly sets Southerly apart is their exceptional service. From the moment you walk in, the staff is friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this restaurant for an unforgettable dining experience, and I'm already planning my next visit!
What a great way to start our Sunday. The area was busy as a Farmers Market was underway but the wait wasn’t too bad. Gave us a chance to explore the vendors. Our server was amazing! Mason was so friendly and he took great care of us. Our food was delicious. We had the half order of oysters, the chicken and waffle and a side of crab Mac and jalapeño cheese grits. The food was delicious, the temperature was right on point and the atmosphere was inviting. I also have to mention the seats where we were seated. They were very comfortable. They also offer military discount which was an extra plus. Ask for Mason you won’t be disappointed.
