Southern Arizona Animal Food bank is a non profit organization helping to provide food for pets in need.
The Southern Arizona Animal Food Bank came about because of a separate, but shared, dream from two of the three principals involved, Donna DeConcini and Donna Dunham.
Donna DeConcini and her daughter Margaux had a desire to help with the abandonment of farm and ranch animals and set up the nonprofit Food For Horses in 2014. Food For Horses was designed to assist for a period of 90 days with food and vet care in an effort to keep those animals with their owners. To assist in raising money they put together a Food Truck Rally where a portion of the proceeds were designated to Food For Horses.
Donna Dunham, the director of RUFF Rescue Tucson, made the decision a number of years ago to help with rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals left homeless by life's many different circumstances. Sometimes the best solution was to be able to keep those animals in their homes with counseling and food assistance. Through pet food donations from businesses and citizens, as well as food purchases from monetary donations, RUFF Rescue Tucson have been able to assist throughout Tucson and Southern Arizona.
The mission of the Southern Arizona Animal Food Bank is to work toward the goal of decreasing and hopefully eliminating the abandonment of all creatures, whether domestic, indigenous or imported from other areas and countries. We realize it's a lofty goal but every journey begins with a single step. We also realize that the animal/human bond is essential to the well being of all involved. With assistance from a handful of volunteers, we have, to date, been able to keep up with the food deliveries, but the need continues to grow. With the generous support of Tucson and the adjacent communities, we feel that dream will become a reality. We invite you to join us on this astonishing adventure.
