Southern California Transit Advocates is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion, development and improvement of public transportation in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
SO.CA.TA Supports . . .
Improvement of existing bus services
Development of a rail network for Southern California, with at-grade or elevated construction preferred where possible, and subways only where high ridership potential exists or topography dictates.
Adoption of coordinated service, with joint fare and transfer agreements between transit operators.
Integrated and comprehensive transit construction and planning.
SO.CA.TA Opposes. . .
Continued freeway construction, roadway development, and traffic capacity expansion, especially at the expense of needed public transit development.
"Technological adventurism" -- the use of novel technologies (e.g. maglev) which have not been developed enough for public transit use and do not deliver a significant benefit over conventional technologies.
Rating of public transportation projects based more on political expediency than on potential ridership.
