Southern Highland Craft Guild, Biltmore Village
"Preserving the architecture of the historic Biltmore-Oteen Bank, the Guild's gallery cultivates a creative culture in the Village.Built in 1928, the brick Art Deco-inspired building served as the bank for the Vanderbilt's idyllic village near their Biltmore estate. Nearly a century later, the Guild's newest gallery continues to complement its tradition of excellence in craftsmanship. Vaulted ceilings welcome the window's natural light on quilted textiles and hand-soldered stained glass panels. The Village's charm spills into the gallery with the opportunity to meet Guild makers throughout the year at special events hosted by the local community."

Wonderful staff who are super friendly and knowledgeable aboutl the arts and crafts! Peaceful atmosphere, beautiful jewelry, clothing, glass, wood, and so much more!
Unique, interesting, beautiful crafts that will keep you saying "Hey, look at this!" to the friend with whom you're browsing. And it's definitely a "you won't be able to walk out the door without buying something " place. Very cool.
Fun to poke around in but not a lot affordable to us non-artisans. They have a lot of ceramics and jewelry that is gorgeous, don't get me wrong, I just can't afford locally made stuff. No restrooms you'll have to go to McDonald's across the street and no photography allowed in the gallery. There's parking out back which is a huge plus.
Lots of cool high end crafts and art. Cool place to visit
Good selection of local artists. I have a hard time judging value, it seemed pricy, but if you like the art, get it. It will be a unique reminder of your trip.
Local art, glassware, jewelry and clothing. Very cool pieces but a bit out of my price range.
I decided to go to Asheboro to complete all of my Christmas shopping. I had 3 stores on my list and Southern Highland was first. I live about 3 hours away and I was very excited. The establishment is really nice and has lovely things. The 3 star is because the staff never said hello. When i entered there was a couple leaving and I was alone in the store. Literally, 2 staff members walked by me and said nothing. I was almost shoulder to shoulder with one... no hello or can I help you. I was curious. I paid close attention to the staff as other ppl started to enter. One by one, the Staff NEVER spoke. Very odd to me. There was 1 older woman looking at a vase and a staff member walked up & took an item that was in front of the older woman but never asked her if she needed help. There was a pair of earrings i wanted to buy in the glass display to the left as u enter, 6 of the Christmas glass ornaments, 2 origami animals on the back wall and this really unique hand painted glass piece....but i changed my mind. I was so disappointed. I was raised to never spend your $ in an establishment if your not acknowledged. I will visit again next year to see how my experience will be...hopefully im acknowledged and i can get those earrings
Beautiful arts, and crafts, and some were reasonably priced, so we did buy somethings. I recommend that you take the time to just walk around and enjoy looking at some of the truly talented people's products, from art, wood turning, baskets, wooden toys, there was something for everyone.
Nice handcrafts located here. Very overpriced. Located in a large building in the Biltmore Village, hard to miss. The place itself is well organized and the people are very sweet and helpful. However, there are not many things here that are truly worth their price. Fine to take a look, but not likely to buy.
My teenage daughter and I visited today. We barely stepped through the front door, when a very rude, elderly woman probably the same woman other reviewers have previously mentioned approached us and said that we were to leave our waters, which had lids, on the counter. Perhaps the owner might consider educating staff on how to treat locals a little nicer; my problem isn't that there is presumably a rule against having a water bottle inside the building while shopping but that a bit more respect and tact should be considered when enforcing such a rule. For the out of towners who like to leave positive reviews, and who have a little extra change in their pockets, support local artisans at other establishments in town. Go to Woolworth Walk. Go to Odyssey ClayWorks in the RAD. Support a busker. Go to Malaprops to hear one of our amazing Western NC writers read a poem, a short story, or a chapter from a forthcoming novel. There are a hundred other places that I can suggest where the people are a whole lot nicer and reflect the positive, kind people of Asheville instead of the uppity, haughty retirees with too much time on their hands who accost local patrons.
