Dental services for your horse
Allen Etheridge, DVM is a licensed veterinarian in Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and Arkansas that travels to your horse's location and performs dental services for your horse. This includes floating and balancing and equilibration of the dental arcades and incisors as well as extractions. The owner has the entire process explained to them while their horse is being examined and worked on.
Power instruments are used instead of hand floats. This is because power instruments can be used to make precise changes and they cause less damage to the surrounding tissue. A skilled practitioner will take just the right amount of tooth surface (occlussal surface) off with power instruments. Often this is impractical with hand tools.
On average a horse needs a dental prophylaxis once a year with power dentisry; however, hand tools require twice a year maintaince and may not be able to correct many abnormal situations.
