Southroads Mall

Description

Southroads Mall is an enclosed shopping mall at 1001 Fort Crook Road in Bellevue, Nebraska. Fort Crook Road was U.S. Route 75 until the early 1990s, replaced by the Kennedy Freeway.HistoryDeveloped by the Brandeis Investment Corp., Southroads opened in 1966 with an Omaha based department store, Brandeis, and J.C. Penney as anchors. The mall has 500000sqft of retail space, which was modeled after the success of Omaha's Crossroads Mall, which was also developed by Brandeis. Southroads was developed within the Southroads Complex near a Sears, which had been open since 1964.Originally, Southroads Mall was only a one level mall in the beginning but later on, the bottom level of the mall came to be. The remodel would also include a food court, a movie theater, an expansion of both anchors, an elevator, 2 escalators and stairs built on both ends in the mall. It also received a heavy makeover on the inside and outside with a new mall area being built connected outwards.Brandeis was purchased by Younkers in 1987, and converted to the Younkers name, but the store was closed in 1996. The J.C. Penney anchor was converted to a clearance center in 1999 and was closed in 2003.Conversion to Office ComplexAs retail outlets closed, retail space was converted to office space. TD Ameritrade, headquartered out of Omaha, began leasing space at the mall in 1998, eventually taking over the former Brandeis/Younkers space. PayPal leased space in the former JCPenney, along with CoSentry. TD Ameritrade began shifting employee from Southroads in 2011 and consolidate their offices in West Omaha.

Honestly In the last 2 years has become more a dump. It’s been dead for years but my family and I are going less and less. We enjoy Johns for years. But since the construction it’s just a mess. It seems like they have no custodians . The construction killed all the beautiful plants. The bath rooms smell horrible and are trashed . Last time I even tried to use the restrooms I left . The entire hall to the bathrooms was flooded in brown stinky water. Most the time they aren’t even open. We still love John but it’s getting so bad even a to go order kills me to pick up with all the construction. Place should of closed to finish construction.
Fast and furious
went looking for Greek restaurant in lower level at former southroadsmall. sadly it had closed by 2pm. maybe next time. I 'll get there earlier.
Only one actual store in the mall, 402 Vinyl, otherwise no reason to go there unless you want to walk out of the heat or want to see what the zombie apocalypse would of been like in the 1970s
This place is dead but John's grecian delight on the first floor is worth going to.
Old and mainly abandoned. No significant retail except for a record shop I need to visit and my gym which I am always at.
The only place worth visiting is John's Grecian Delight...
The mall is practically empty. Had a good gyro place, but really, it's dead. I'm suprised they still attempt to operate
In the lower level of the old southroads mall. John's Grecian Delight is delightfully delicious. Gyros, burgers, Chicken, potatoes, and fries. Salads also. All very good and the owner and staff are awesome and very nice!
The best childhood memories growing up My mom worked at J.C.Penny & it still has one of the best gyro shops
