The agency originally started as the Green-Miller Agency in the late 1920's. In the mid 1940's the owners changed the name to Southwest Agency to represent all of Southwest Missouri. At that time there were approximately 12 independent agencies in Carthage with Southwest Agency being the largest.
Southwest Agency was incorporated in January of 1955. In 1967 Charles Compton joined the agency as part owner and relocated in 1972 to the current location the agency still operates out of today. In 1972 Charles Compton purchased and commenced remodeling the historic buildings that are located on the historic Carthage square. The agency was purchased by the current owner Kelly Tommey Spencer in 2002.
