I was lucky enough to give birth to my daughter at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Dec of 2022. My OBGYN Dr Kaplan was wonderful and so caring throughout my pregnancy journey. The birthing suites are new, clean and very comfortable. During my delivery, Dr Kaplan was not on call, but still called to check in and even came for part of labor to offer support. Dr Smith delivered my baby girl and was so professional and experienced. I always felt like my needs were heard and I received excellent care. The OB nurses were great, and the lactation consultant Caroline went above and beyond to make sure I was able to start breastfeeding. Even the food was good. Really special experience, thanks to everyone. I am devastated to hear that the family birthing center will be closed, I hope the board will reconsider this decision. It’s such a wonderful asset to our community.
Do not get sick or hurt in Cortez! This is the worst hospital I have ever been to. I have been holding off a review because I liked the birthing center their, but it sounds like they are closing it.... The walk in clinic is full of incompetents that will send you to the ER to extract money from you! And for gods sake if you can avoid the ER, do it! They will prioritize drunks, over sick and injured children. You may wait 8 hours to get a couple test and sent home with no answers and an 1200 dollar bill and a still very sick child. The doctors are rude and unprofessional. A couple of the nurses and check desk are a little sympathetic but clearly over worked. I would honestly risk bleeding to death or driving with serious chest pains to get to Durango rather than going in that place. This is the epitome of expensive bad American healthcare, Im sure its the administration and the company trying maximize profit of the wellbeing of the patients and the community. I know I'm not the only one, I have heard from many people in Cortez and the county to avoid this place. The people who run this hospital are obviously deaf to patients, you can just look through the reviews and if they live here they must know the reputation of the hospital. AVOID THE EMERGENCY ROOM AT ALL COSTS!!
I see the 3 doctors at SW memorial. I absolutely love Dr Eversole. The others in that office I can't say to much for. I am away for 2-3 mo. I will be running out of my pain meds, which reduce my back and neck pain enough for me to function. I'm away to help my mother and her husband to go into Assisted living, empty their houseits a very large house, have an estate sell, clean the house, sell the house, and bring some possessions home with my sister and I. My mother is ill, so I don't have a choice. I was told that SW Memorial can't prescribe my pain meds while I'm here, because they don't have licensing in PA, the one of the receptionist said because it's a policy of ours not to prescribe out of state. Ok which is it? Well I. Was Cutoff cold turkey and to seek another provider while im her, thats a joke. I would have to go through all new. I was told by 3 pain Dr's patient screening, havevall my records sent , her then be evaluated. I was told by 3 pain Dr's it would take into June to get me in. So, I have to not only handle severe pain, but deal with being cutoff cold turkey while carin elderly family members. Where is the medical caring , did these doctors get into this because they truly care for people or for the money. Some of us are not pill or drug seekers. It's a damn shame to bet treated like a criminal or whatever else we at 61 years old with a chronic back and neck issue. Your entire health system leaves a lot to be desired. My sister goes to a doctor who does in fact prescribe her opiods out of state. This is due to a bad hip. The pharmacist said this is done all the time, and doctors have told me this, and you can do it without a license in this state. I know this will fall on deaf ears as usual it's sahame. I have been through many more issues. But this is enough. s
Don't ever go to the Emergency Room at Southwest Memorial in Cortez, while coming back from vacation we had to visit the ER for my kid, she was continuously coughing and headache regarding the payment/insurance, asked the employee explicitly which option is less expensive cash payment or insurance employee took my insurance card and verified with the insurance and told me that i have been covered 100%, later I got a $1100 bill to home for simple treatment and prescribing antibiotic medicine. requested them if I can pay them direct without going through the insurance, which is 50% cheaper than going through he insurance. I called them multiple times, seems director of the payments department was very rude, told me that its their policy and they go by their own system. they are not transparent and helpful.... please avoid this hospital.
At first I came straight to the reviews when I learned my husband needed to go to a hospital. He is a truck driver and got sick on the way back to Texas. I will tell whoever looks at reviews, that the reviews posted do not equal the level of care and the way the hospital staff treated not only my husband but me. I am so satisfied. They immediately cared for my husband and treated him. Thank you to all the staff, Doctors, Nurses and Kitchen staff.
Just had my baby here and was blown away by how great the staff was. Everyone in OB was awesome, their nurses really treat you like family. Everyone else we worked with from registration to the nutrition/cafeteria team was also amazing. Really appreciate all of their help and support, they all made a potentially terrifying experience memorable for all of the right reasons.
Waited 2 hours in 95 degree heat in the parking lot with my son. Went in to waiting area because it was too hot even with the ac full blast. Waited another 20 minutes. Got up to tell the receptionist we were leaving and was told, "You've waited this long, it shouldn't be much longer." Ten minutes pass and I get a phone call from reception five feet away and I'm told to go back to the car and they'd call. Got to the car and was told they would do the visit over the phone. Yes, over the phone. I could have driven home and and waited for them to call and discuss it over the phone. ???? Only wish there was a 0 star.
I'm in desperate need of an ER but after reading all these rotten reviews of the ER and hospital staff I will look elsewhere shame on the Cortez Hospital for treating people so horribly.
We had a really amazing experience at this hospital. My husband went in for an emergency appendectomy. Everyone was very nice and we didn't have to wait to be seen. The surgeon was funny, friendly, professional, and checked in regularly afterwards for follow up. Nurses and registration were just as amazing. Thank you!
Please don't waste your time going to the ER at Southwest Regional, unless absolutely necessary. The staff was discourtious and slow. The physician was condescending, arrogant, and rude. I felt as if I had been transported back to the 1950's and treated like person of lesser value since being a woman. Chauvinism and ineptitude at it finest!
