SpArc Philadelphia

About

SpArc Philadelphia is the non-profit parent organization of The Arc of Philadelphia and SpArc Services benefiting people with disabilities.

Description

As part of the SpArc family of organizations, The Arc of Philadelphia and SpArc Services are committed to ensuring that people are provided with supports and services of the highest quality.

Founded in 1948 by parents who sought better services for their children, The Arc of Philadelphia is one of the first Arc chapters in the United States. The parents who created The Arc labored tirelessly for the equal rights and human dignity of people with disabilities at a time when institutionalization was the norm. In subsequent years, The Arc, through its staff and Membership, has become a powerful voice in shaping the service landscape for people with disabilities.

As an early pioneer, we campaigned for the right of education for children regardless of ability and promoted integrated services for children and adults with disabilities. At every step in the struggle for equal rights, The Arc has been a vibrant catalyst for change at the local, state and national level. Our relationship building with our state and national legislators is noteworthy. We are often called upon by legislators seeking advice for their constituents regarding systemic issues related to people with disabilities.

In 1990, The Arc formed a service provision arm, PDDC- now called SpArc Services, to focus on a mission of vocational training and independent, competitive employment. One of the primary goals of SpArc Services is to expose program participants, people with a wide range of intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities, to the community.

We do this in a number of ways: through business partnerships we have contracted work sites where participants earn a paycheck by providing a service, by being involved in our cultural arts program including attendance at cultural events such as concerts and plays, by taking part in volunteer activities in the community, and through community supports including placing and supporting people in competitive employment.

Our intention is to support people through advocacy, education, cultural experiences, and employment to live their lives with maximum satisfaction and the highest level of independence. We have served the community for over 60 years and are continually searching for new ways to improve and enhance our services.

They are too strict on covid when everything is relaxed they also think feeding people who can't feed themselves isn't they job they also think changing diapers isn't they job if you don't want to do it sparc isn't the place to work at the staff at the front desk need to learn how to treat people with disablites right she is nasty
Outstanding, My daughter is involved in this program , I give it 10 stars, It is very informative, A good well rounded mix of educational and entertainment. What I love about it the most is that staff as well as clients love one another, They make everyone feel welcomed and helpers of one another. Keep up the great work.
They're very unprofessional when it comes to the hiring process. I was interviewed twice by Tara and Mia. I was told that they'll call me to let me know if they decide to hire me or not. I was never called. I called 3 days later only to be told by Tara that they had hired from within the company. A complete waste of my time and I would not recommend this place to anyone for employment since they tend to favor the internal staff instead of people who actually want to work. Mind you that this company is nonprofit and state-funded but are very unprofessional.
i have a son with special needs who has been attending SPARC for 10 years plus every since Covid they have not let him back all because now they want perfect disabled people to attend there. The staff sucked in keeping you updated on consumer returns and and the CEO thinks they are the on day program around. Heck with that place they suck now!!
I use to work there I enjoy working there It was lots of fun we did lots of Arts and Crafts We also did lots of Activities Is a big place where people can work there we also have people who has disabilities they'e have great people who Works there.
Staff and administrative here, are doing a great job. Place is a friendly and save environment. I love the way they treat their clients, helping them to develop greatly.
I Use To Go There Almost 19 Years For Custodial Training The Trainee That Goes By Name Of Joe Hall Treated Me Like Garbage And Didn't Trained Me Properly That Made Me Feel Like I Have To Do The Inhumanity Impossible To Make Ends Meet And Plus He Was Arrogant His Boss Laura Princiotta Was A Joke Making Excuses For His Abusive Behavior To Keep The Bad Stigma Alive That It Is Okay To Treat People With Disabilities And Mental Illnesses Like Garbage And Show Favoritism To Others. And They Want To Me To Accept Constructive Criticism Their Way Which Means They Want To Let Them Or Anybody Talk Down To Me Any Kind Of Way Like I Am Dirt And Want Me To Be Powerless To Speak Up That Traumatized Me. And The Job Counselor Robin McDuffy Was Very Snotty And Unprofessional Towards Me When I Was Picked On At The Job She Got For Me At The End Of 2000 That I Worked For A Year And To Make Matters Worse They Didn't Wish Me The The Best Of Luck At All I Don't Consider Pddc A Program I Consider Pddc Extremely Ghetto Because People Like Joe Hall Robin McDuffy And Laura Princiotta Only Care About Themselves.
Very passionate and full of great opportunities when it comes to learning a hands on experience as you prepare yourself to become a well-talented person on the work force.
They provide good help for people with disabilities and get them job ready. And help them become independent on their self's
