I went through the 6 month program and lost 19 pounds, while on the two weeks of supplements I became very constipated and was hospitalized for pancreatitis for 4 days afterwards Dr Lane met with me and was very rude and inconsiderate telling me that I had to start the 6 month program all over again. She said I should have added fiber to the supplements but I was not told that, and then she begin to attack my character by trying to intimidate me accusing me of having a attitude and said she was not going to allow me to have the surgery. He attitude was not pleasant at all, I was warned not to use her but I gave her the benefit of doubt. I couldn’t get her office to send my records to another weight loss program for months. I would in the future not want to work with this person.

Never felt more unwelcome. They make you pay up front for all your appointments up front, which I don't understand how that is even legal to pay for a service you have not received. Which... then forces you into something you may not be ready for or lose a couple hundred dollars. The nutritionist put in my file that I didn't seem like I was ready for this... But never discussed that with me. I found out from my primary physician. I found many of the staff to be rude and judgemental. Go elsewhere.

Dr. Lane is skilled, efficient, and has the worst bedside manner of any medical provider I've met in my entire life. If you can look past that, the pre surgery program is great. It's informative and chalked full of information. I am now 1.5 years out of surgery and the support is non existent. I've asked questions and been referred to the dietician for a large fee. I've found more help from Facebook groups than this office. The PA is particularly hateful and scoffed at the fact I had severe pain after surgery and had to practically beg for relief. In hindsight, I would have gone elsewhere. I have lost 100 pounds and am happier and healthier, but I don't suggest going through Sparrow for your bariatric surgery needs.

I completed the entire 6 month program at SMG Bariatrics. I took all the classes, paid all the money, and never missed an appointment. I had to write a letter to Dr. Lane telling about myself and why I needed to have bariatric surgery. She admitted to never reading it. She comes across as rude but nonetheless my surgery was scheduled. I paid for FMLA paperwork, got coverage at work, paid for the foods to take before the surgery, etc. Then 2 weeks before my surgery date, I get a call from Sparrow saying that my insurance denied the preapproval for my surgery. They claimed that I followed the program but my insurance denied all of the surgery requests from Sparrow. When I spoke with the insurance, they said that Sparrow didn't have the proper documentation that I followed a 6 month diet and exercise regiment. It's been over 2 weeks and I continue to contact Sparrow but haven't heard anything. They keep saying that they are "working" on it. I highly recommend that you go somewhere else for your bariatric surgery.

I have had a positive experience! The staff went above and beyond for me. I felt extremely comfortable, confident and trusting with Dr. Obinwanne. After surgery, I went for my two week post op with Amanda! Then had my follow up with Lindsey two weeks after that. I love the staff! Courtesy and professional. I have my three month follow up with the Doctor January 23. I feel blessed to have had such an amazing experience for a procedure that has changed my life for the better. I had the RNY and was Type 2 Diabetes. Since surgery and getting out of hospital, I have not taken any diabetes medication since!

I had an absolutely great experience, Dr Lane and her staff are tough but it's for a good reason there is no changing your mind after the surgery once it is done its done, so they make sure you are physically and mentally ready for the change. They were very helpful before and after the surgery and will continue to be there if you need them. You will get the results you want if you follow the program that they lay out for you. I highly recommend Dr Lane and the Sparrow Bariatric program.

Even after giving Sparrow complete information about another medical condition I have PRIOR to beginning their program, they failed to truly review my health information before accepting me. After many weeks in the program, I asked the sixth person I had an appointment with, as I had each one before him, "When do I get to meet the surgeons to discuss the surgical protocol for my ...... condition?" This practioner looked at me like I was speaking Martian. I explained that I left a copy of the protocol at my very first appointment over a month ago. He told me that patients don't usually meet the surgeon until right before surgery. I said that would be a heck of a time to find out that they won't do surgery on me. This guy then told me he'd contact the doctors and ask them to look into my case. Two days later every appointment I had scheduled was canceled, all 22 of them, even before I had even been called and told that Sparrow didn't feel confident to do the surgery, that they didn't have the expertise. They suggested the University of Michigan do the surgery. So, that's what I'm doing. THANKS Sparrow! You wasted a LOT of my time.

Sparrow has a lot of good info when you want to proceed with surgery. However, very few of the staff even look at you, they talk over you instead of trying to understand what you are asking. And if you work with Tobacco do not go to Sparrow at all. I told them from day 1 that I will always have some tobacco from touching it. And they new from my tests i was not smoking. At the last minute they dropped me as a patient. Over tobacco. Lucky me i had been told not to trust them and had already started working with other surgeon. Surgery done now. I'm pre-surgery. I will update once I've had surgery. So far they have all been friendly, helpful and informative. I know exactly what to expect from surgery and what I need to do to be successful post- surgery.
