The Spartanburg Downtown Memorial Airport is the City's largest owned asset and is located in the southwest section of the city off Ammons Road. Serving over 140 local aircraft, as well as corporate jets representing many of Spartanburg's largest companies, the Downtown Airport plays a key role in the continued economic prosperity of the Spartanburg community.
The airport is the 3rd busiest in terms of traffic among 55 general aviation airports in South Carolina, contributing $25 million to the local economy. With over 80,000 operations yearly, the airport creates 190 aviation-related jobs in the area with a payroll in excess of $5.2 million and serves over 60,000 visitors each year. As a reliever for GSP airport, our activity includes Emergency Medical Transportation, the Organ Transplant Program, Traffic Watch, Disaster Relief, Law Enforcement Aviation, Freight/Cargo, Special Construction Aviation, Search and Rescue (CAP), Geographical Mapping/Surveying, Wildlife Research and Monitoring, SC Forestry Commission, Military Aviation, Angel Flights, Agricultural Aviation, Flight Training, Sport Recruiters, Glider Operations, Political Aviation and Aerial Photography. A few additional services include hangar rentals, office space rentals, two flight schools, plane rentals and an on-site maintenance shop.
