I usually don't give bad critics unless it's really unbearable. 5+ on waiter, very friendly and enthusiastic, 4.5 on ambience, 4 on food, tasty but bit pricy for it is. 1 on the lady in the front, not only b- resting face also forced 4 of us including 72 yr old guy standing for 15 minutes at the tiny entrance with the fact that we had reserved table for 7.
The food was good. The wine flowed for our table. Apparently they don't get many groups ordering wine by the bottle though. Our waitress didn't know how to open a bottle and kept having to go back to the bartender for help I thought this was a college town... How can you not know how to uncork the bottle?. Food was good regardless though.
The crispy duck was the best duck I've ever had period! The orange-cicle creme brulee was among the worst creme brulee I've ever had
The food is great but sometimes the service is pretty terrible. We waited forever to get water. Then forever to get the drink menu. Then forever again to get the drinks, and... forever again to get the bread. I don't understand what the deal is with this place sometimes. The waiters I've had could also use an attitude adjustment. You would think this wouldn't be a problem with the kind of prices here. They seriously need to restaff their waiters, it's quite unsettling to go out for what you think is going to be a nice meal and have rude servers.
I was very excited to try this "new" restaurant, but left the experience disappointed. First, it was a Tuesday night and they were out of the beer I wanted - Stella! Who runs out of Stella? Next, the food. I was in the mood to have a classic southern dish, so ordered the red beans and rice with collards. The rice was completely tasteless - maybe they forgot to salt the water?? The beans were also bland. The collards were yummy. I pretty much never salt restaurant food, but had to liberally salt this dish to make it palatable. I also requested some of the famous "voodoo sauce," which is more of a chunky chutney or something, to help. It did, but wasn't what I'd been going for and shouldn't have been necessary. The dish was served with two small pieces of cornbread - they were dry and overly sweet. Very disappointed. This very simple dish should have been delicious.
This is my favorite restaurant in State College. The speakeasy feel, soft bread, and delicious heaping portions of Cajun food always hit the spot. Whether it's a nice evening with someone special or a nice lunch with coworkers, the food is amazing. I always get the Crab & Crawfish on Hot Pepper Pasta, and I highly recommend it.
The food here is 5+ stars! The atmosphere is hard to classify as speak easy as there is a sign out front advertising the location, and the restaurant doesn't accept Amex, but the food makes up for it all! Definitely don't miss the cheesy gritz, and the asparagus appetizer. They give complementary lemon sorbet as a pallet cleanser, which was a great touch. I am not from the area, so it's hard for me to put prices in perspective. I got two appetizers and a glass of wine for $ 32.00.
Excellent! Wonderful place to eat. Great Cajun inspired dishes and standbys, tapas menu too. All fresh ingredients. A real surprise to find a place of this quality in central PA. It could hold its own in any "foodie" city.
If you are vegetarian you would love the selection of food one can get here. The Salads are phenomenal and the gator burger is amazing. The gumbo is to die for. The best Cajun food one can get in State College area. Highly recommended for business and casual dining.
I got the special, and it was tasty and the price was reasonable. Service was on point. I felt like the prices on the menu were too high, but I didn't eat from the regular menu so perhaps it was all reasonable. The food was great. My only complaint was the prices for the food I didn't eat.
