OMG! We are from out of town and staying at the Hilton. I am in love! Try the pumpkin thingy little pie thingy! It is the best thing you could ever eat. Girls were sweet and place was clean. Wish I found them yesterday instead of eating at the hotel.
Pros: Nice selection of sandwiches. Ordering online is very convenient and their system will text you when your order is ready, though sometimes it texts you too early. Cons: Can be incredibly slow when they are busy. Recently took 40 minutes to get a sandwich and a cup of soup. Hard to deal with for a work lunch place. This part of south city really needs more options to handle the volume.
The first time I can here, their electric menu boards weren't turned on. I've been to other Specialty's so I know what I've ordered before. I asked about the menu and was handed a paper menu. No problem. Anyway, they probably have way more pick up orders than dine in. There's a nice patio outside and is great when it's sunny. They also have peets coffee, which is nice. I think the best thing about Specialty's is their baked goods. I love getting day old items because they're definitely worth it!
I ordered a salad at the tail end of the lunch rush. It took fifty minutes to get to me and the order was wrong and they missed having chicken added three times. Other customers who ordered after me got served before me. After maybe 20 minutes of waiting most of the crowd had left. It still took another 30 minutes to get my food. I’ve never had such a poor customer experience at a fast casual restaurant.
I did enjoy the salad good balance of veggies that were filling and fresh and the iced coffee delicious!. What I did not enjoy was the eye-roll I got when I asked the barista to remake my drink order... because it was wrong. If you think I'm being ridiculous by wanting my correct order then you are fully entitled to your opinion, but please at least wait until I turn my back to make exasperated faces.
I order from Specialty's sometimes for lunch since it's right under my building. Maybe I've had it too much or I'm getting sick of it, but Specialty's is just ok to me. It's fine for the occasional convenient lunch, but I would never go out of my way to come here. The best part of the sandwiches is probably the bread. I kinda like the focaccia since it's saltiness blends well with the pretty regular sandwich ingredients. The breakfast sandwiches are probably the best value, but I'm not the biggest fan of the eggs. Their texture is strangely spongy. The cookies here are pretty huge and filling. I definitely like the slightly chewy texture, and they have a good variety of flavors. I'd probably like them more if I never had cookies from better bakeries like B Patisserie. It's still fine for the office, but I would never drive over here on a non work day.
Specialty's will always remind me of a very good time in my working life when it was the closest restaurant to my office. I like the peanut butter sandwich, the hot alby, the roasted vegetable sandwich, the soups and the salads. The baked goods are always fresh and the cookies are decadent. Ordering ahead is very convenient.
I ordered a salad. Waited 20 mins. The food was good but some of the people that work there push me to Wendy's down the road. Like if you hate your job, don't work there please. I get they're on Genentech's campus and so many of those people are outright creeps but don't take it out on everyone.
Good sandwiches quality ingredients and good tasting and awesome cookies / desserts. They have a Peet's coffee section there. We get lunch boxes for office events and they do a good job. The prices are on the higher side.
Meh. I keep trying different stores and they are all the same. Front of house staff super nice, but but you can tell they suffer from poor management. Food is mediocre at best. You would would do better with postmates or doordash. I would never drive to a specialtys, only go when thats all there is available.
