Spell & Spell provides courtroom representation and general legal counsel in the fields of criminal defense and personal injury law.
The Spell & Spell law firm was founded by Anne Spell, ("Annie"), and Doyle Spell, Jr., ("Buddy"), in January, 1997, a few months after they were married when Annie left the Bogalusa law firm of Arata & Arata and Buddy closed the New Orleans firm of Spell & Associates, LLC.
The original office was housed in a huge, old, defunct, run down, wide open former furniture store on Ellis Street in Franklinton, Louisiana, where, their desks pushed together facing one another in the vast warehouse, Annie concentrated on a civil practice while Buddy focused on criminal defense. They started the practice from scratch without any clients on the day they opened the firm and, over their next eleven years in Franklinton, built the foundation for today's Spell & Spell law firm.
In 2008, the two partners left Franklinton and purchased the city block located on the northwest corner of Tyler at North Columbia Street in downtown Covington where they renovated an old home and converted it into the admittedly quirky office space which houses the firm today.
In January, 2015, Tara Farris Zeller, a long time judicial staff attorney for two local judges, brought her unique legal experience and impressive skill set to the firm to assist with the increasing criminal caseload and to help manage an influx of plaintiff personal injury cases.
Still very much a "family business", it is anticipated that additional attorneys will be brought on board to contribute additional talent and passion to the firm in the very near future as our practice continues to grow and expand in the coming years.
