Spirit Cafe is food for body and spirit, designed for those who are “spiritual but not necessarily religious,” with discussion and readings from diverse secular & religious traditions.
Spirit Cafe happens on the first Friday of the month in Beecher Hall of The Park Church in downtown Elmira. Each month has a different theme, but what is consistent is background music by Jogo, a simple meal, and small tables encouraging conversation around discussion questions selected to reflect the theme. We say "the power is at the table" which means that the organizing committee offers diverse readings, music selections, reflections about spirit from many historic and religious perspectives, but interspersed judiciously so that private conversation can dominate. We hope that participants will share from their life experience and think about new spiritual ideas. A home cooked meal is offered buffet style featuring seasonal garden produce, soups and decadent desserts. Entrees are chosen to be mainly vegetarian and often gluten free.
Dinner is included each month and we ask that reservations for the meal be made so we will have enough for all. Call the office at 733-9104 or email to [email protected]. Donations are taken at the door for the dinner. Participants may also come for the program without partaking in the meal.
