The Spirit Lake Fire Department works proactively with residents, schools and businesses to promote fire safety awareness. Providing big city services on a small-town budget, the Spirit Lake Fire Department is known for its quick and caring response to every call.
The Spirit Lake Fire Department is a separate entity from City Government. The City of Spirit Lake provides funding to the department along with funds from the City of Orleans and several townships within Dickinson County. The Department is governed by a Board appointed by member cities and townships.

Fire Suppression
The Spirit Lake Fire Department has a full complement of fire equipment designed to suppress fires including:
* Two fire engines, one 1991 Chevy Kodiak and one 2001 Freightliner
* One ladder truck, 2005 with a 103 foot ladder
* One grass quick-attack truck, 1995, 4x4 Ford 350
* Two Tanker trucks, 1991 Kodiak and 1977 Ford
* One Incident command vehicle, 1999 Chevrolet
* 1931 Chevy restored Pumper truck
Fire Prevention
The Spirit Lake Fire Department has an active fire prevention program. Services include:
* Public education with children and adults
* Tours of the fire station
* The area scouts
* Upon request, we will inspect residential dwellings for fire safety
