SPORTPORT INTERNATIONAL, formerly SportPort located in Maryland Heights, is undergoing a comprehensive renovation to become the premier outdoor field sports facility in the region.
Phase one of the work includes construction of four state-of-the-art artificial turf fields, four additional grass fields (bringing the total to 19), a new access road which greatly improves traffic flow, and renovation of the grandstands on the stadium field. All other grass fields are being improved with ongoing renovation.
The construction specifications followed in building three of the turf fields. Six lbs. per square foot of infill material is being utilized to assure a higher degree of player safety. A GreenFields watered turf is the fourth field and is built to accommodate play at the International and World Championship levels. This field employs water cannons to wet the field prior to play. This improves ball handling and player safety. Wetting the field allows a player to slide and reduces a player’s risk of knee and ankle injuries. These features should make SPORTPORT INTERNATIONAL turf fields some of the safest in the region.
In addition to regular club and league play, SPORTPORT INTERNATIONAL will bring many of the area’s most talented youth coaches together to offer players a broad range of camps and skill-building activities.
The phase two’s plan includes a new concession area, expanded parking and a beer garden, among other amenities, with completion scheduled for September 2015.
SPORTPORT INTERNATIONAL is just 15 minutes from St. Louis Lambert International Airport, minutes from Interstates 70 and 270 and are within a 10-mile radius of approximately 3,600 hotel rooms.
