A fun place to take my nephew with my husband. Love seeing all the birds, the eagles especially! Had a great time. Just don't understand why you would have to pay for a 2 year old to get in. No big deal, just confused by it! Can't wait til the avian flu isn't a big deal anymore so we can feed all the birds again!
So much fun for everyone! Close interaction with the ducks, geese, and swan. Beautiful nature. Awesome display of owls and hawks. Would recommend and definitely come again.
What a fun way to spend time outside! You can buy buckets of feed only $1! and have a ball feeding the birds. There are great walking trails that also take you past some other birds that live permanently at the sanctuary. Beautiful views and a very friendly, knowledgable staff. - updated to say that when window staff isn't available they have an honesty box where you can pay admission members get free admission, and they usually have self-service corn buckets you can purchase as well and it's only $1 per scoop for everyone.
Visited during free entry promotional day. Visited w family. Heated flush toilets upon entry, paved path for walking, improved gravel track for other walkways. Scenic and beautiful views around the lake, fenced areas you can walk up to the wildlife who are not alarmed at humane approaching. This visit had a wildlife show, handler brought out a red tail hawk that was very pretty. Animals in caged areas are all well maintained, clean and present respectful to the animal. All caged animals are due to permanent injury. Great place to walk around and enjoy birding!
Beautiful area. Good variety of birds, easy walking path.
Visited the sanctuary with the family on a trip. What a great experience! You can purchase buckets of dried corn for $3 each to feed the ducks, geese and swans. The grandkids had a blast!
The thing that stands out from our mid fall visit was the complete lack of song birds in the woods around the lake. When there are song birds everywhere else why does the bird sanctuary not have them? Towards the front of the park there are several birds of prey in cages and many geese, ducks and swans in the lake. I'm told you could feed the water fowl but we didn't. If you are close it might be worth a visit just to walk around but it's really just a basic nature trail. If you are coming from the Kalamazoo/Portage area any of the bike trails in that area will have more variety of animals and plants. Honestly it was strange to not see or hear birds or see any animals larger than a squirrel.
Who knew you could see Bald Eagles up close just a short drive from Kalamazoo?! The resident birds are beautiful and the nature around them worth exploring. We highly recommend KBS for an afternoon of family fun.
A really nice place to spend a few hours morning or afternoon. Lots a bird and wildlife, beautiful native plants and botanicals. Did i mention you can feed ducks, geese, and swans? The staff was very nice and informative. I would definitely recommend for a relaxing and fun experience!
The Kellogg Bird Sanctuary is a very nice place to visit. The admission price is good and I like that you can buy a small container of food for the birds to feed them while inside the bird sanctuary. The grounds are very clean. The atmosphere here is nice. My favorite bird to see during my visit was the black swan. I also love the fact that they take care of many injured birds that include a bald eagle. While I was here my family fed the birds and walked on the trails. The Lake Loop trail is a very easy, flat trail that circles the lake in the Bird Sanctuary. It is wide enough to fit a vehicle. I also hiked some of the Bluebird trail as it is part of it the North Country National Scenic Trail. The beginning of the Bluebird trail at the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary is a few stairs. Once you are up the stairs you will find a board with a map of the Bluebird trail and a small map of the North Country Trail. The Bluebird trail is nice and it is narrower than the Lake Loop Trail.
