In 1939, brothers Bob and Al Pelton were hard at work in the modest neighborhood donut shop in Salt Lake City. They were intent on inventing a recipe for the perfect donut.
After months of experimentation, they developed the ideal combination of select Idaho potatoes, specially blended flour, pure vegetable shortening and rich, subtle spices. The Spudnut was born, named for its unique potato-based blend of ingredients.
That same "Spudnut" donut is still made today using all the quality ingredients of the original recipe. Our commitment is to maintain the high quality of products, service and image established by the Peltons over 50 years ago.
Spudnuts would become one of America's favorite food confections, a chain of Spudnut Shops stretching from coast to coast, Alaska to Mexico. Many became devoted fans of Spudnuts, named for being potato flour donuts, "spudnuts”. Over time the parent company went out of business, gone but not forgotten.
