Private, christian day school, serving ages 2 years old to 6 years old.
St. John's Day School has been a fixture in Alamogordo for more than 50 years. Our school began in the church basement, moved it's way up to share the Parish Hall with the church and now have our own two buildings.
St. John’s Day School (SJDS), an outreach ministry of St. John’s Episcopal Church, is a nonprofit organization, licensed by the State of New Mexico (#28585). SJDS is dedicated to the following mission:
We strive to develop each student’s social, physical, educational, and spiritual growth by providing a developmentally appropriate environment that fosters each student’s potential.
We aim to accomplish our mission in the following ways:
Social: encouraging and demonstrating respect for all students and staff, promoting communication and problem solving skills, encouraging responsibility for ourselves and our actions
Physical: structured, teacher led physical activities and unstructured student led free play time
Spiritual: familiarization and learning of bible stories, versus, prayers, as well as weekly chapel time
Educational: teacher directed curriculum including garden, science, alphabet, number, calendar, and other educational concepts
Our academic development consists of familiarizing students with numbers, counting, and math concepts, colors, shapes, music, language, social studies, science, and reading readiness. We will engage the student’s interest using hands on experiences and many varieties of opportunities to learn and explore at a level appropriate for their age.
Creative development is encouraged. Many projects are hands on projects where students are encouraged to color, draw, glue, cut, and make their own version of the subject matter. This is your student’s interpretation and they are very proud of the work they have done.
