My wife and I have had our children in this hospital system and all the follow up Dr visits are with St Luke's Dr's. We can not say enough about the care given and the attention to detail. The nurses have always been great and the Dr's would listen when I spoke which was nice. They treated my wife with nothing but respect and took great care in ensuring she was comfortable. The only downfall was the fact that a spouse is not included in the opportunities to get food during the weekends and the cafeteria is closed. I was fortunate enough to have friends and family bring me food other wise I would not have had anything from Friday morning till Monday.
It has been 3 years now, but I wanted to let everyone here know our story, as I see a few other folks here have had similar, abysmal experiences. In August 2019 this hospital’s ICU staff clearly accelerated the onset of my mother’s death after she had a stroke by their medical malpractice. The ICU team decided to do an angiogram on her to get a nuclear dyed map of her brain vessels, but this caused her to have three massive strokes back-to-back immediately following the procedure, and then she could not see, move, or speak; they had caused her severe irreversible brain damage. We were told that she had a very little chance anymore that she could recover from that… but they were the ones who had just caused it so it was very bizarre, infuriating and revolting to watch them discuss the results of having just annihilated our mother’s mind and made her a vegetable. They then put her through a brutal experimental blood transfusion, which failed. Then they denied her hospice care and instead sent her to a regular hospital bed on one of the main floors, which was totally inappropriate as her time in that hospital bed was terrible to witness… My siblings and I cared for her every day, feeding her, cleaning her sheets, brushing her teeth, and so on, only because her nurses rarely showed up to care for her, especially when she would groan sounds of pain and had no way to call for help to get a pain killer injection… I had to ring her bell over and over and over again in the ICU, but not as much in the regular bed. She then stopped eating food, so the hospital readmitted her to the ICU by which point the damage had already been done… why did the hospital leadership kick the can down the road like that? It was of course painful and extremely disappointing to then watch her start to fade away. There were a few good nurses who actually cared for and treated her like a human being, but the vast majority of the leadership in the ICU had a condescending, cold undertone with a hint of shadiness. To ensure our mother was shown love and care during her painful demise, one of her children stayed the night with her every night and we took turns doing that all the way until she passed in the ICU, still never “qualifying for hospice care”. My mother, and other loved ones in St. Luke Bethlehem Campus’ ICU, deserve much much better than the hell my mother was put through. If you love your family member and need to deal with a stroke, I highly recommend seeking out another venue which specializes in strokes and has a thoughtful, caring staff. I saw St. Luke’s Bethlehem Campus was sued a few times for medical malpractice in mid and late 2019 around the same time this all transpired… so perhaps our story is not as rare as we thought, but if we could do it over again, we would never have brought her here to die.
One of the worst hospitals. Ever. My uncle was there in ICU and died under suspicious circumstances after being told he was recovering nicely and would be moved to a reg room next day. Nurse care is horrible. No caring, just running in and out and poking with no empathy. If I would have known what I know now following “Killer Nurse” he would have NEVER been taken there. The hospital cares for one thing: money. As it is we are seeking legal counsel and will pursue action of wrongful death and malpractice. We WILL be going public with this.
Arrived at the ER to see my wife and they will not let me see her. Not because she is in surgery or otherwise indisposed, but because they need the "Okay" from a nurse before I can see her - unfortunately for my wife and I, there isn't a nurse available to sign-off on a married couple being in the same room together. Extremely poor management/business processes.
I will NEVER go to St Luke's again. NEVER. Being 29 and told your not going to see more than 3 months to a year at best, based off CT scans and MRI is not what ANYONE wants to hear. 7 almost 8 months later, I'm feeling better than ever. They said it was a full blown glioblastoma. Brain cancer. No matter the experience of the doctor, they cannot tell you based off a picture what type of tumor it is. What your prognosis is. Anaplastic astrocytoma and 1/3rd of it was a cystic mass. I'm going to see my boys graduate. I'm going to make it. They glued both my boys without even consulting me- who glues young children?? Who says 'if it tears open, don't come back here. Their is nothing more we can do.' Sure enough, both tore open and it was off to Lehigh Valley Hospital! If I had been in my right mind, I would have demanded to be taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital. I've had NOTHING but negative experiences with St. Luke's.
Very impressed with this facility. Every person I encountered has been wonderful!! Friendly, helpful, and have gone above and beyond. All staff are great! Nurse and doctors are the best I’ve encountered at a hospital. You are in good hands with the medical professionals at this hospital. If I had to come to a hospital again, this is where I would want to come.
A family friend was taken to the hospital after a fall. He spent about 10 hours in a lovely room at the Emergency Department, and then was transferred to a room in area B between rooms 200 and 219. Each and every member of the hospital staff whom our friend encountered was friendly, knowledgeable, hardworking, compassionate and kind. Patient, too. Personable. People people. I cannot say enough great things about each and everyone, from the receptionists in the ER to the staff in the cafeteria, to the aides, nurses, NP, doctors... and everyone in between. There are too many people to laud to mention all their names, but I hope they read this and see that they matter, that they make an important difference in our lives and the lives of so many in our community. We feel so lucky to be living near to St Luke's Hospital.
The billi checker is a waste of time, they told me one price and said that everything was included, I paid out of pocket for a procedure and they also charged my insurance, and top of that sent the remaining balance to a collection agency without notifying me not a single time. So sad that hopitals rip people's pockets just because they can.
Service was whatever. Pretty standard for ER. They took way to long to discharge us, but, again, typical for hospitals. My real complaint was billing. I mailed in a check and it was never received. I have never had anything lost in the mail in my 35 years of life. When I asked them about it, I was told that there was a two month delay in opening mail. Can you imagine? In all my life I have never heard of anything like that. They, however, had no problem updating my statements, and reiterating their incompetence via message. I have just now started a payment plan, months later, and am just left to assume that they lost my check. What a joke, haven't had any issues with LVHN though.
This is hands down the worst hospital I have ever been to. I came here a few years back for an injury and had a very bad experience, then now my girlfriend gets scheduled for a M.R.I and from the moment we got here nobody answered the door. We were standing at the door for about 20 mins then finally a nurse that was passing by told us to go to the emergency room and talk to them to walk us up to the M.R.I. The lady at the front desk in the er didn't know how to even make a phone call and she had to get her supervisor to make a call. So then her supervisor gets off the phone and comes out and says sorry but u have to walk outside and around again to the M.R.I it should be open at that point we were really upset because I have an injured girlfriend and they are just playing games and not been professional and not helping us in any way. So then we go to the other side again to find nobody at the door and nobody answers the door even after ringing the bell and knocking so we let ourselves in to find nobody at the counters just a phone that says call for assistance. This is the most uneducated system and most uncaring staff I have ever encountered in a hospital and honestly we will never be back here again and I hope people see this so they know to avoid this hospital if your seeking real care because they do not care about their patients in any way.
