"Be it known to all who enter here, that CHRIST is the reason for our school,
The unseen but ever present Teacher in our classes,
The model of our faculty and the inspiration of our students."
St. Mark Catholic School was established in 1982 in order to fulfill a need in the Catholic community of St. Mark the Evangelist Parish, in Plano, Texas. The school opened, welcoming 113 children in grades Kindergarten through third. The school's use of the educational building consisted of five classrooms, a small library, and the two-room main office. The church activity building provided space for physical education classes and a student lunchroom. The staff in 1982 was comprised of the principal, secretary, and six teachers.
Presently, over forty staff members occupy the school plant, which consists of three building totaling 84,000 square feet on a 14.7 acre site.
St. Mark is recognized by the United States Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon Exemplary School in 1992 and again in 2007. The school is accredited by the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department. The Diocese of Dallas Office of Education, in compliance with the Texas Education Agency, designs the curriculum.
St. Mark Catholic School graduates and their families have continued to prove their commitment to Catholic education as all graduates who apply to Catholic high schools are accepted.
The mission of St. Mark Catholic School is to educate each student in a spirit of faith, gospel values, and academic excellence according to Roman Catholic principles.
"St. Mark Catholic School has set the standard for private education in Plano, Texas and the greater Collin County area since 1982. Committed to academic excellence, emotional intelligence, and rooted in faith, St. Mark has been recognized on the local, regional and national levels. Home to the SmartLab, students engage in hands-on learning using innovative technology and a STEM/STEAM/STREAM program tailored to 21st century learners. Innovation meets tradition as cursive handwriting, music, art, foreign language, outdoor education, and physical education are integrated into the curriculum. Religious instruction and community service reinforce virtues and values, resulting in an education that teaches the whole child: mind, body, and spirit."
