St. Michael's Parish, Barrington, began as a Sunday School in the Fall of 1948, meeting weekly in the Masonic Temple. Holy Communion was celebrated once a month by the Rector of St. James Church, Dundee.
In 1950, St. Michael's became a parish and The Rev. Joseph Williams became the first priest-in-charge. In March, 1954, ground was broken for the church building which consisted of the sanctuary, nave and undercroft. The architect was St. Michael's parishioner, Edward Dart. One year later, St. Michael's was given the Bard Memorial Bells. Subsequent expansions have added the north and south pews, the office wing, the narthex and courtyard, and the Parish Hall. More recently, renovations to St. Michael's nave and sanctuary were made in 1998 that included repairs to the floor, refinishing the pews, and improving the lighting and sound. In the spring of 2002 the most recent addition was dedicated, adding over 16,000 square feet to the education, office, and community areas of the building.
A unique feature of St. Michael's is the columbarium located in the north wall of the Courtyard. Also unique are the stained glass windows which depict the life of Christ with word and symbol. The Bell Tower has become a village landmark.
Over the years, St. Michael's has grown to over 1,000 parishioners and has an active church school serving over 200 children.
The worship at St. Michael's is centered in the Eucharist. The church is open during the day for prayer and meditation or you can view our worship schedule. The church office is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Summer - Fridays 9:00-12:30).
