A brief history of St. Vincent de Paul in Goderich:
St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) has been active in serving Goderich and area since 1983. The local SVDP began with just six volunteers and a dream. It operated for only two hours each week in the beginning; by 1990, the need being met demanded expansion. The store currently has 45 volunteers and is open 6 days a week from 12:00pm to 4:00pm (closed Sundays).
Our role in the community:
Since its inception, the volunteers and community have been working hard to ensure that SVDP is well-serviced and able to meet the changing needs of the region. The society constantly strives to renew and be adaptable. No work of charity is foreign to the society.
The Goderich SVDP society is blessed to have a store, soup kitchen, and food bank. The food bank alone has served over 140 families (290 individuals) every month in the Goderich area since 2011.
Goderich SVDP offers an array of individual and family support services. We maintain an active and close working relationship with many social workers in local agencies such as Pathways, Ontario Works, Critical Care Access Centre and more. Our store is completely run by volunteers so we can acknowledge that they really are the backbone of our ability to serve in the community.
We are a unique and eclectic family that is always ready to embrace new members from all walks of life to help in many varied ways.
