The decision to start therapy with a licensed professional is like setting out on an expedition to both rediscover old territories and to discover new.
What I do in each meeting is listen carefully to what you say and share my impressions with you in order to enhance your sense of who you are. In this way I am like a mirror. From time to time I may share my own thoughts and feelings regarding what you share with me. However, I will be very careful to tell you that these are my thoughts or feelings. At times I may make suggestions; what path area might be most helpful to explore, or a possible way to approach an obstacle. Also, from time to time, I may suggest certain things for you to practice that will help you become better prepared to deal with important issues, thoughts, or feelings. Remember, it’s your life so the final decisions are always yours!
