A branch of TRLA, we are the public defender office tasked with representing indigent criminal defendants in Starr, Duval, and Jim Hogg Counties.
Established in June 2016, the Starr County Regional Public Defender office is funded with the support of the Starr County Commissioner’s Court and the Texas Indigent Defense Commission. Together, the staff members of the Starr County Regional Public Defender Office bring their experience from county and public defender offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Portland, Boston, Austin, and here at home in the Rio Grande Valley. With five full-time attorneys, two law graduates, and two investigators, the Starr County Regional Public Defender Office seeks to provide zealous representation to its clients in Starr, Duval, and Jim Hogg Counties, as well as serve as a benchmark for indigent defense in Texas.
