Best read stop ever! The bathrooms are typical for a rest stop, but the trails are spectacular. There is a beautiful picnic area with tables and a view of the falls and the river, a short loop for dog walking at the bottom of the river and next to the bathrooms, and longer trails that make this rest stop a destination in and of itself- gorgeous!!
Easy walking trail. We went up the side of the falls to get a little closer to the top. Nice rest area.
Very beautiful! Well maintained area with picnic table and clean bathroom! No hiking is required to see the waterfalls, unless you want to get to the base of the 2nd tier of the waterfalls! That's what we did. Just a short hike up. So worth it!!
Arguably better than Multnomah falls, starvation Creek packs a beautiful trail with unbelievable views as well as wonderful picnicking tables next to the waterfall and creek. It's a very serene and peaceful place to hang out and view. If you hike up the trail a little ways, you may encounter falling rocks, so DEFINITELY be careful as you go. But it turns out to be very worth it when you find that one right clearing to show you some spectacular sights. The falling rocks and wildlife you may see brings this location down one star, but don't let that deter you from going, especially if you don't mind a little danger.
Easy hike to a handful of waterfalls. Beautiful scenery and views of the Columbia River. Main trails are paved, but still can be a little slick when damp. Lots of room for people to spread out. There are bathrooms at the parking lot which is nice. The parking lot is very small so if is very busy you might have to wait a bit or come back later. Highly recommend checking this beautiful spot out!
Other than the first 30 minutes like any gorge trail where you're hiking straight up, this was mostly simple. Falls were a nice view and the weather was cool on the more exposed parts of the trail where the wind was present, but this was worth doing. Would come back.
Of the many places to stop between Portland and The Dalles this is one of my favorite stops. Restrooms have running water and if you want some exercise there are good trails as well. Recently I stoped there at night. There where no parking lot lights so that was a little creepy. Hopefully the lighting situation gets fixed soon or I may stop using this stop at night.
This is a very easy access area. Starvation Creek Falls and Hole in the Wall Falls are both wheelchair accessible as well. They are along the new Columbia River Gorge paved path that goes from Troutdale to The Dalles. Beautiful fall area - great place to enjoy the fall leaves. 1 drawback is the noise of the freeway.
Beautiful falls welcomes you with a view before the start of the hike. We went on a cloudy day so the hike wasn’t very tiring. Has good views of the gorge along the last mile of the hike Starvation Ridge trail. It had rained the previous day, so the ground was damp and the trail wasn’t that slippery. But on a sunny day, the soil can be really loose and the gravel can get very slippery. Overall a great hike!
We did the 6 mile lower starvation hike which covers waterfalls and view points of the Gorge. Luckily a sunny day meant pleasant weather and clear sky with beautiful views. One section of the trail is closed, but the view points are still accessible. Parking area may get full, so plan to visit here early.
