The bestestest hiking trail of all Traverse City . It's so prettyful ^.^ and like so many different ways to go hike it too . Totally a hot spot as well among locals but also a place tourists go too =b. A few lil places to visit while on the trails, from the Hippie Tree to the circle thingie with all the graffiti on it .
Could use green, blue, black signage with large trail names. The "you are here" maps are nice but most people have trail forks or other apps. So they know the trail names they are looking for. Being able to ride up to a trail junction and seeing the trail name you are looking for is nice when you don't have to stop and look at a small sign. Big signs with names so you can continue riding notnlooking at maps. The trails are super fun. Parking: Signage at the parking lot is minimal and confusing
We came to see the Hippie Tree and we weren't disappointed! The hike to get there is uphill so a little tough but definitely manageable. The site of the Hippie Tree is off the trail and downhill but plenty of trees and branches to help get you down. And it's stunning!!! We took some paint with us to add to it a little
Living here since 2011 I have often visited the natural area/hiking trails many times over, more times than I can count. All seasons, except winter. I've also had countless individuals come with me and or invited me to come with them on a hike and so on. It's a great place for being out in nature away from the main Traverse City's, city area. Nice and peaceful, birds and other critters all about. It's serene for photography and videography as well. Countless memories here.
The hiking trails at the Grand Traverse Commons are confusing and poorly marked. Most sign posts have been vandalized. Some trails have deep ruts and exposed large roots creating trip hazards. There are several beautiful scenic viewpoints looking east to downtown and the two Bays.
The signs and maps are terrible but the trails themselves are great - moderate with some smaller hills. We found the hippy tree using google maps because we couldn’t find any signs to it on the trail.Recommended activitiesWalking
The Hippee Tree is such a beautiful place to visit. A place absolutely seeped in history and local legend. A must see.
I've been coming here since the early 2000's, long before any of the renovations were done. The Cedar Cathedral is beautiful during the rain. The below ground water tower featuring street art is always beautiful to see. This is a special place, please tread lightly.
Very cool walk. Both rustic and open trails available. Be sure to visit the Hippie tree!
Great trails. Well maintained and more of a local spot. I love the beach but when I get out of the water it's time to hike. Very beautiful countryside with a little help from our friends. I get by with a little help from my friends.
