Opened on September 14, 1927 as the National Theatre, it was a live entertainment and movie house. It cost 250,000 to build and outfit, with 1672 seats; a 9 piece orchestra with organ, upright piano and a grand. Below the 90 x 40 ft.stage there are 11 dressing rooms. It was covered in 2000 very bright lights. It was remodled into the State theatre in August 28, 1936. It was remodled again in the early 1970's when the balcony was divided into 2 more screens. That is the way it stands today. It closed in 1996, and had a fire in the snack bar in 2005. As of September 2011 I have been in contact with Don Kirk, whose company is in the process of getting the theater to restore it. I will keep you updated.
