Description

Steak 'n Shake, a classic American brand, was founded in 1934 in Normal, Illinois by Gus Belt who pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milkshakes.

For over 80 years, the company’s name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word “steak” stood for steakburger. The term “shake” stood for hand-dipped milkshakes. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes in the business.

Today, Steak 'n Shake remains the “better burger” leader, serving premium 100% beef steakburgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, thin crispy fries, and more. Steakburgers are made without preservatives or artificial ingredients, topped with fresh produce, and always hand-crafted to order. Other classics include the Frisco Melt, 7x7, Prime Steakburgers, and fan favorite M&M milkshakes.

I have been coming to Steak & Shake since I was a kid. The food has not really changed. The building still maintains its character. However, that is where the nostalgia ends and where the New Stake & Shake begins. Gone are the waiters/waitresses, the glass ketchup bottles, the spicy peppers. Now, there is the obvious efficiency of kiosks and a manager wondering around the lobby encouraging efficiency. While this does feel more like an industry norm today. Gone is the reason for Steak & Shake's success. Being greeted, seated, waited on, real plates, great prices. to be fair, the prices are still fine BUT gone will I be as this is no longer a Steak & Shake I want.
A little disappointed that I had to go to a kiosk and order my own stuff as nobody comes to the tables to take your order like they used to. Nothing said either as I and a friend sat and waited. We figured it out on our own. Ordered 2 shakes and they were runny. The friendliness is gone. Don't see myself going back.Food: 3/5
Completely automated now. No table service, dismissive staff.....etc. Bit of a shock as I had not been in one for a while, clearly. Food was ok, Frisco was passable, chili was still good even if they don't have the peppers any more. Despite having the most limited of interactions with the people working there, the order screen will still prompt you for a tip. No one is going to check on your meal quality, no one is going to snag you a refill, just fyi. Basically it's just a fast food joint now, so if you're feeling nostalgic, there's other options. Ymmv.
The food was great AND the staff gladly remade my autistic son's burger because he didn't like it sliced. Steak 'n Shake is his favorite and we can't wait to go back! Food: 5/5
I agree with others' comments that S&S is not what it used to be. Everyone should know that going in and adjust their expectations. For us this location has done very well for several carry out orders in recent weeks, in terms of getting the orders right and the food was prepared well. So the 4 stars are mostly for their service, not the food quality. Their shakes are still pretty decent.
I do hate having to use a self serve order system. I always wonder how often they clean the screen. Otherwise, the food was great and the gentleman who made sure we were doing good using the self order system also checked on us twice after we got our food. Honestly, however, I miss having a true waitress. That was part of SNS appeal. I just feel like without a waitress it loses some charm. Overall a good meal and good service.
Steak and Shake menu is pretty much the same everywhere. What made this experience stellar was the great service. There are kiosks to place your order but the person ate the front was still very helpful with special orders. She came around to make sure the people eating were doing OK. Nice experience even for a self serve restaurant.Dine in: YesOutdoor seating: NoTakeout: YesDelivery: Yes
Took my money on a mobile order and they were actually closed. Can’t call their number it just fails. Won’t respond to my dispute Edit: Had to contact paypal for them to give my money back. Also, Steak n shake support still never emailed me back. Terrible and im glad i payed through paypal as they actually helped me… Maybe you guys should make sure you update your holiday hours so you don’t waste peoples time and money.
Not really in to sorry keost for ordering food would rather have waiter when sit down. In restaurant I refuses to go back to steak and shake used to love there food not same quality as it used to be .but that what corporate does decide what best for customers .what customers like that the norm now days with alot of placesFood: 1/5
Due to the pandemic we had not been to Steak 'n Shake for about three years. We used to love it. We were very disapointed in our recent visit. No waitresses, kiosk ordering only, no salads, no baked beans, and no malts. The place just isn't as good as it used to be.Food: 3/5
