MISSION STATEMENT

Stephen's List is dedicated to the inclusion and equality of all children and adults with disabilities throughout Colorado, the nation, and the world. Stephen's List promotes its mission of inclusion by advocating, educating, investigating, and litigating to advance and protect the rights of individuals with disabilities, and by public education and advocacy efforts on behalf of, and with, all people with disabilities.

Our Vision

A world where people with disabilities (PWD) are included in their communities and neighborhoods and where quality supports and services respond to their needs and personal choices.

Our Values

1. People First. Stephen's List believes that all people with all kinds of disabilities, including those with intellectual and developmental disabilities have strengths, abilities and inherent value; are equal before the law; and must be treated with dignity and respect. Stephen's List supports and acts on behalf of individuals and their families regardless of level of disability or membership in Stephen's List. Stephen's List believes in self-determination by empowering people with the supports needed to make informed decisions and choices.

2. Democracy. A democratic process involving members, through affiliated offices or chapters, is utilized to take positions on important issues, policies and programs.

3. Visionary Leadership. Stephen's List leads by promoting the mission, core values and position statements. We lead with integrity, accountability and by open, honest and timely communication. We work with individuals, organizations and coalitions in a collaborative fashion. There is a valued partnership with volunteer and staff leadership at all levels of the organization that provides mutual support for their respective roles.

4. Community Participation. Stephen's List works toward and believes in the community imperative: that all people have the fundamental moral, civil and constitutional rights to live, learn, work, play and worship in safe and healthy communities of their choosing. Stephen's List works to ensure the safety and well being of individuals.

5. Diversity. Stephen's List values and insists upon diversity in its leadership and membership. Stephen's List actively pursues and welcomes diverse groups (including but not limited to race, ethnicity, religion, age, geographic location, sexual orientation, gender and level of disability).

6. Integrity and Excellence. Stephen's List conducts its business with integrity. Stephen's List reflects quality and excellence in all its work.

CORE VALUES

Stephen's List operates under several core values, including:

•All people with disabilities are entitled to inclusive education, living, employment, leisure opportunities, and community life.

•All people with disabilities have the right to live in their own communities and pursue their own lifestyles.

•People with disabilities should play a central role in the design, operation, and monitoring of the support they receive.

•All people in society share the responsibility to create inclusive communities.

•The work of creating inclusive communities and an open society is not essentially a matter of resources but how we think about people who have disabilities.
