Stone Mountain Adventures - SMA

About

http://www.sma-summers.com Stone Mountain Adventures is a Teen and "Tween" Summer Camp (12-16) in PA. Join our group of SMA fans from around the world!

Description

At Stone Mountain Adventures, we believe that individuals should be challenged to step beyond their own abilities: To ride with confidence, to climb with technique, to control the sail, to bike one more hill. Stepping beyond also means personal growth: developing self-reliance; trusting in new friendships; learning to be sensitive to the needs of others in community.

As a teen summer camp with only 60 young teen 2-Week-Teen-Summer-Campcampers ages 12 to 16 and a staff of 14, Stone Mountain Adventures feels like a family of good friends sharing the summer’s adventures in a noncompetitive atmosphere. During our 2 and 4 week sessions we celebrate our victories, accept our shortcomings, and learn from both. As the days flow by, our philosophy of respect and sharing emerge. We learn respect for animals, the outdoors, and one another. As strong individuals, we come together as a summer family while learning and having fun together.

Over the years we have kept our promise of staying a small, family-oriented summer camp for teenagers. We believe that our camp’s small size directly affects the quality of our programming as camp quickly becomes a close knit community that creates strong, positive intrapersonal relationships. Campers are challenged on activities every day which builds confidence. The combination of mutual respect among campers and staff and the increased self-confidence through physical endeavors helps teens to begin to discover who they really are and how they fit into this world. Being a young teen can be a challenging time and SMA is a fun, safe place for teens to grow emotionally and physically. We encourge you to explore and learn more about 2 week summer camps.

"Stone Mountain Adventures SMA is a co-ed, overnight teenage summer camp located in the heart of Central Pennsylvania. Every day, we create opportunities for teenagers to challenge themselves: to ride a horse, to rock climb with good technique, to wakeboard or waterski, and most importantly of all, to develop lasting friendships. Building confidence is our goal; freedom to explore, positive reinforcement, and a superstar staff are our tools."

Wow! SMA Camp exceeded all expectations and delivered an unforgettable experience for my 14-year-old nephew! He is a first time camper. From start to finish, it was an absolute thrill for him, and I can't thank the camp enough for providing such an incredible adventure. The moment we arrived at the camp, we were greeted warmly by the friendly and attentive staff and campers. They immediately made us feel like part of their big adventure family. The range of activities offered at SMA is nothing short of amazing, with a lot of amazing adventure options available. He got to challenge himself and conquer fears with the guidance of the skilled instructors. The camp's scenic surroundings added a picturesque backdrop to every activity. The trails allowed the campers to connect with nature. It was a perfect blend of adventure and tranquility. Throughout his stay, my nephew learned valuable life skills such as leadership, cooperation, and resilience. The camp's commitment to personal growth was evident in every interaction and activity. I must commend the camp's staff for their dedication and passion. Their positive attitudes and genuine care for each camper created a supportive and nurturing environment, making it easy for my nephew to make new friends and feel at home immediately after his arrival. I can confidently say that SMA Camp is an exceptional place for young adventurers to explore, learn, and grow, while having fun. My nephew is already asking to go back next year, and I wouldn't hesitate to send him there again! If you're looking for a camp that offers thrilling activities, fosters personal development, and creates lasting memories, look no further than Stone Mountain Adventure Camp. Five stars all the way!
SMA is such a wonderful camp! My son went for two summers and had such a great time. From the white water rafting to the mountain biking - he had a lot of adventures and made great friends. Highly recommend!
Choosing to go to SMA when I was 15 years old easily was one of the best decisions of my life. Having grown up in France, I originally wanted to go there to improve my English and make friends in the US. I found exactly that, and much more. SMA is a place that allows teenagers to grow into young adults, gain self confidence, improve both their social and outdoors skills. I remember feeling nervous when I first went there, as I had never been separated from my parents for so long, let alone by an entire ocean. SMA nevertheless has the magical ability to quickly feel like home. Thanks to its small size, it is possible to meet and befriend every single person there. Some of the people I met there went from complete strangers to closest friends in a matter of days. I am still in touch with today, years later. I returned to SMA as a counselor in 2016 and 2017, and was happy to see that what made this camp so special then still lives on, thanks to the dedication and care put in by Jud, Anne, Pam, Biff, and the rest of the family. If you are considering going to SMA, or sending your child there, I could not give you a higher recommendation for it.
SMA is amazing! My daughter initially went for one 2-week session then asked to extend for another session that same summer. Note: she did NOT want to go to camp at all, in the beginning, so her asking to extend showed how great the program is. She went back the following summer and is sad that she is now too old to attend. Now, she's looking forward to when she can become a camp counselor there!
My daughter had an amazing camp experience at Stone Mountain Adventures. She did the wake masters session and had an excellent time. The camp staff was very organized, friendly and caring. The activities were very fun! The food was good and plenty. She said the best part were the counselors who were all very energetic and cheerful. She had a great time and would love to go again next summer!
Jud and Anne are amazing!! This was our first camp experience and we are from out of state. Every aspect of the camp was very organized from the registration to the transportation to the airport. My son had an amazing time and can't wait to attend again this year. Thank you SMA for your dedication to teens!
As an Occupational Therapist who considered social, physical and imaginative development of my teenager, this camp was fantastic! My son went 3 yrs in a row and my dtr became a counselor one yr for the art program. Activities ranged from music, sports, rock climbing, white water rafting…plus the counselors are so fun. I like the narrowed age focus 12-16 yrs and the professional recreational background of the family owners. It was a total fit for my kids! My son still keeps in touch with some fellow campers.
Stone Mountain Adventures is the best camp!! I was a camper 83',84', 85'. My 12 year old just returned from the 3rd session and had the time of his life!!! He was nervous at first and was a bit teary when we left, but Jud being the awesome Director he is redirected my Son and he was off to experience adventures of a lifetime!! There aren't enough stars listed to show how incredible SMA is. If anyone is looking for a wonderful teen camp well look no further!!!!!!! Michael Goldberg
My daughter was new to Stone Mountain this summer and with all the uncertainty of covid, had the best experience in the middle of a summer full of other cancellations! The counselors and campers were friendly and down-to-earth, and the outdoor activities were amazing! She loved the canoe overnight and white water adventure especially, as well as just playing frisbee and hanging out. It's a special place.
My son attended SMA for three great summers; that was several years ago. I was motivated to write this review when, recently, on a break from college, he started talking with great enthusiasm about SMA and his many fond memories of the place and the people he met there. He also continues to be in touch with several of his former counselors and fellow campers. Jud Millar, the camp director, and his team have built a truly outstanding summer program, and I highly recommend SMA to all parents of teenagers.
