I would NOT recommend Dr. Patel or the Patchogue office. My daughter was referred to an allergist bc of a reaction with unknown cause. First visit- Dr. Patel insisted we test for dog allergies. I said my daughter has always lived with a dog but okay fine. I swear when the result was negative it was like Dr Patel was annoyed. We brought my daughter in for the 1st time at the start of COVID, she was less than a yr old. My husband and I asked the med assistant if she was going to clean the scale before my child went on. She laughed like I was being dramatic. I worked in a psychiatric ER at the time and knew what the protocol should be. Especially with infants. Each visit Dr. Patel was rude and condescending. My daughter has an egg allergy and 2nd skin test she reacted more. Dr Patel then went on to say her concern about "getting enough nutrients". I explained I had been vegan in the past and I have been making my daughter's treats and avoiding eggs. Dr Patel kept pushing me to get more labs despite me saying I didn't think it was needed. And she alluded to her belief my daughter's nutritional needs wouldnt be met without eggs. 100% false belief. I was not going to do labs when i knew my daughter was clearly allergic just from a skin test. A resident was present during another appointment and Dr Patel spoke to her more than myself. I am a healthcare professional and would NEVER treat a patient or a patient's parent in that way. Extremely unprofessional and the refusal to listen to a parent is deplorable.
Hey maybe consider telling your patient with with a newborn they will have to wait an hour for a room instead of keeping them in the lobby with a ton of sick coughing children
We have had nothing but good experiences in the last 12 years with 2 children at SB peds Waverly Ave. We've seen almost every MD, NP and nurse and rarely had an issue. We've waited inside the rooms for a bit longer than desired, once an hour but things happen. It's frustrating when it happens and emergencies do take place. We will recommend this office to friends and family.
What a horrendous experience! Dr.Coleman treated us so poorly! She has a very bad attitude for no reason. Completely unproffesional! My 7 year old daughter actually asked me in the office, "Why is this doctor so mean?" I only went to this office because their other location was fully booked, but I will NEVER go back! I am polite and was very nice to her, so it was absolutely unnecessary for her to behave the way she did. I've never heard a doctor sigh so much over my talking about my children, and at one point she actually said "WHATEVER". I couldn't even get the paperwork I needed for my daughter's school because it was like I was asking them to pull their teeth out of their mouths. DO NOT RECOMMEND! Go to East Setauket instead!
HORRENDOUS EXPERIENCE, THE DEFINITION OF MALPRACTICE -- My older daughter was brought in for her second appointment with this office, her 30 month well visit, the visit proceeded normally and she received a second dose of the flu vaccine before leaving. During her visit I asked if my 8 month old needed a second dose of the flu vaccine -- the doctor/nurse who administered the first dose failed to mention at her 6 month well visit that she would in fact need a second dose of the flu vaccine. I promptly scheduled my younger daughter to receive her second dose of the flu vaccine for the following week. While in the office to receive the second dose of the flu vaccine the only vaccine we were visiting for the nurse mentioned that she also needed her third dose of the HEP B vaccine. I questioned the nurse, the doctor didn't mention this third dose of the HEP B vaccine or for that matter the second dose of flu vaccine, this immediately caused some concern. The nurse started reviewing my daughters file after I had questioned her and noticed that both of my daughters immunization records were scanned under my younger daughters file. That my older daughter received a second dose of the flu vaccine for no reason. Apparently, a second dose of the flu vaccine is only needed the first time a child receives this vaccine. I was livid to say the least. NOT ONLY DID MY DAUGHTER RECEIVE A VACCINE THAT WASN'T NEEDED, HER IMMUNIZATION RECORDS WERE FILED IMPROPERLY AND NOT A SINGLE DOCTOR OR NURSE NOTICED OVER THE COURSE OF SIX VISITS TO THE PRACTICE two visits for my older daughter and four visits for my younger. NOT A SINGLE DOCTOR OR NURSE QUESTIONED THE FACT THAT MY OLDER DAUGHTERS IMMUNIZATION RECORDS WERE MISSING FROM HER FILE. What kind of practice does not take the time to question something like that when looking over a patients file? I as the parent should have been made aware of this issue from the very beginning. My children will NEVER set foot in this practice again and I will be sure to alert all of my friends, family of this MALPRACTICE.
Dr. Coleman is our primary doctor - but we sometimes see Dr. LaBarka as well. Both doctors have proven to be extremely knowledgeable, professional, and kind to my son, who is now two years old. The nurses actually know my son by name there - even though we aren’t there too too often. They always ask to see his pictures and the books I make up for him. They truly are very kind. I read one of the negative reviews - and when my son was first born - yes there was a long time he was not clothed for his newborn checkup but when he was first born we knew it was important to bring blankets everywhere! Although he wasn’t clothed - and it was the winter months he was born in February we kept a blanket on him in between procedures, and he was completely fine. The only suggestion I guess I would have would be for that situation maybe they should have blankets on hand since new parents might not think to have a blanket on hand. I absolutely love this office - and Alexander does too. He’s looking forward to his appointment today, in fact!
If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Came in with my 4 day old baby for her first check up. Nursing staff had me undress her to do the initial vitals and exam. After doing some measurements and having me answer a series of questions which left my baby unclothed for 15 mins in a freezing exam room, they finally get around to doing a rectal temp day old babies, especially those with low birth weight, are unable to properly regulate their own body temperature. That's when the nurse gets the doctor who didn't even want to examine her at that point and tells us we need to bring her to the ER because her temp was too low. We go to the ER, are told by the ER staff that they believed her temp drop was a direct result of the pediatrician's office staff leaving her unclothed for too long to do vitals, however, due to state regulations they were now required to observe her for 48 hours and run a gambet of tests including blood work, urinalysis catheter and spinal tap in addition to IV antibiotics as a precautionary in the case it happened to be due to infection sepsis. My 4 day old infant was tortured for 48 hours, tests all came back negative and the hospital ruled it as hypothermia. Hypothermia, which we were told was directly due to her being left unclothed for too long at the office. I was horrified by the negligence of the staff here. Not once did the pediatrician call to even check on us at the hospital or even there after. In addition to that, we later found out that this office had not returned our insurance card to us after making copies needless to say we left the office quickly to get her to the ER that day and didn't realize this until after we arrived there that they had not given it back to us. Again, we never got a call to inform us they had it. We had to call them to confirm they had it. When we went to retrieve it, there were two parents arguing with the front desk staff over the treatment they received by the physicians at this office. Not sure what's going on here but if you're considering coming here I strongly recommend that you reconsider and look else where.
Incompetent doctors who think that 103.5 one day and then 104.8 fever the next day does not warrant any antibiotics. Never tested him for strep , never felt his neck and told me he had swollen glands and an ear infection. I found out within the hour when I went to a different doctor at a different practice. Never again will I step foot in that incompetent office. If you like to see your child suffer for six days with fevers and that's the place for you not me
We love Dr. labarca but this office is horrible now. You can never get an appointment if your child is sick. I’m not sure if it’s a new office manager or stonybrook procedures but the office is not how it used to be.
Honestly the receptionist is just rude her name is Cathy! I don’t understand, I never had that experience before. Definitely going to another MD office going forward!
