Helping you create a healthy, sustainable business.
What We Are?
Funded by the U.S. SBA and the State University of New York, the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) of Stony Brook has been helping businesses through all phases of growth since 1988.
The SBDC is made up of talented and dedicated NYS Certified Business Advisors who take a personal interest in the success of your business.
What We Do?
One-on-one assistance with business planning, marketing, financial management skills and technology transfer are just a few of the ways we can help to improve the economic viability of small businesses.
We offer support services to business by providing knowledge and access to public and private sources of capital through the SBDC.
We also offer referrals to consultants and service providers, workshops and seminars, a comprehensive library and a computer network linking the Stony Brook SBDC with other SBDC centers throughout New York State.
Management and technical assistance is also available through direct counseling in these areas:
• small business start-up/expansion
• business plan development
• loan information assistance
• training programs
• marketing, including social media
• import/export
• procurement
• women's services
As a program administered by the State of New York and sponsored by New York State Small Business Administration and the State University of New York at Stony Brook, there are no charges for direct counseling by SBDC. You may encounter small fees for training courses.
The Stony Brook SBDC has several ongoing initiatives for specific business communities on Long Island such as Hispanic Entrepreneurship, Light Manufacturing and Renewable Energy sponsored by NYSERDA.
How We Do It?
As one of 24 campus-based regional SBDC centers in New York State, the Center at Stony Brook utilizes the resources of the University and its links to the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and the Long Island High Technology Incubator, to name just a few.
We combine these University based resources with the private sector and the government to provide assistance with organizational, financial, marketing and technical matters for small businesses.
Why We Do It?
Our goal is to help entrepreneurs, business and industry solve problems. Helping new and existing businesses leads to their increased productivity and profitability and in the long run, contributes to the stability and growth of the small business sector and the economy.
The SBDC has many benefits that will help you build and maintain a strong & valuable business.
